Does any one out there know the statistics for rtas in the north per capita ?. The reason for asking is that a very good friend of ours was involved in a horrific accident on the esenteppe road last week. Also this morning on breakfast TV a young man from Sheffield was seriousley injured in NC . any one any thoughts about this?

Hi ronaldo

The statistics are published on a regular basis in the local newspapers but if you do not have access to them then I am willing to disseminate the information and e-mail the same to you.

Thanks Dave ,would appreciate that Ron(aldo) Everytime i drive down the coast road towards Tatlisu i am very wary of idiots overtaking and driving on the wrong side of the road.Or is it the breath taking views they are looking at and maybe forget wich side of the road they should be on.

ronaldo,

The standard of driving in the TRNC is really bad, look at these stats, the UK has a very good record for road safety compared with most other EU countries. In 2004 it had one of the lowest road death rates in the EU, at 5.6 per 100,000 population. The population in the UK being something like 60million. In the TRNC the road deaths run at about 70 per annum and the population is only 200,000 - 300,000. Surely this shows that there is a much higher risk of being involved in an accident in the TRNC.

I think that in 2008 the number of deaths on the roads in the TRNC was between 45 -50.

Sorry but I worked long and hard to get the donor card accepted in uk even got it on driving licences. i know religion dictates but they can go and have a greek cypriot ogan when it suits. sorry im on a soapbox tonight must be the full moon. why didnt you come to see me kenny promised you would xxxxxxxx

I just heard they're going over to driving on the right in North Cyprus from 01/01/10 to fall in line with Turkey.

The Government Gazette reports that it will only apply to buses and heavy goods vehicles the first year and then to private cars and vans from 01/01/11.

Lem, yeah - OK!!!

Was that what happened to your old Dad when he was a bus driver and involved in that fatal accident - was he, as a bus driver, driving on the right and all others on the left!!

On more serious note, I think I remember reading somewhere (possibly on here) that Cyprus, as a whole, has by far the worse RTA incidence in Europe?

The old one's are the best!

So here's the 10 top things NOT to say to a cop who has pulled you over.

1. I can't reach my license unless you hold my can of Strongbow.

2. Sorry officer, I didn't realize my speed camera detector wasn't plugged in

3. Aren't you the guy from the village people?

4. You must've been doing about 125 mph to keep up with me! Good job!

5. Excuse me, isn't get out of the car hyphenated?

6. I thought you had to be in relatively good physical condition to be a police officer

7. Like you, I was going to be a cop, but I decided to finish high school instead.

8. You're not gonna look in the boot are you?

9. Is it true that people become cops because they are too dumb to work at McDonalds?

10. Well, officer, when I reached down to pick up my bag of crack, my gun fell out of my lap and got lodged between the brake pedal and the accelerator, forcing me to speed out of control..

I'm off to do a crash course in driving.

Driving here is dangerous...most dont look where they are going, they overtake on the inside, they have never heard of an indicator, they drive too fast, overtake on blind bends, drive too close to the car in front, roundabouts to them are just there for decoration and I am quite sure that not one understands what DUR means, you take your life in your hands everytime you get in a car..

Do they take a driving test because I am sure they don't.

Well the trancission period has'nt been good for the gone beserks(turks), five years ago they were shepherds riding donkeys now they've flogged off the greek land they stole they have jumped into BMW M3s, all you need to ride a donkey is a stick, now all their limbs are being used which causes the mediteranian brain to overheat and the Dr Jekel thing to take over. Giving these nutters cars was akin to the cowboys giving the indians whiskey in the wild west. Anyway dont knock it part of my weekend enjoyment is watching the crashes on the bend down the road, its great when they get out and blame everybody else.

Seems no one has driven in North Africa or the Middle East, in Kuwait after 6 months of driving there, I left the country, was risking my life daily driving to the office and home again. Far too unsafe, something like 30 deaths a month, 300+ accidents monthly, Cairo was not any much better, in Libya just now and there no better either, I don't find the driving in TRNC near as bad as what some people make out. The UK is not perfect either.

It would be interesting to know how mny deaths occur between 11.00pm and 2.00pm , Friday to Sunday. Anybody know as that seems to be peak fatal time.
