Begs various questions, this one! Wonder how many real title s actually belong to TC's who had fled 35 years ago to the North to avoid being ethnically cleansed ?

The government of South Cyprus has lied to the EU and the UK over title deeds.

Well there’s a surprise – Will these people never learn.

It is interesting to note that approximately 100,000 title deeds are yet to be issued in the ROC. Most of these are being pursued by foreign buyers, particularly UK citizens.

Furthermore TRNC title holders are told that their titles are infact legally held in the ROC land registry and may contrary to TRNC title .....the same registry would appear to be in total dissary due to the 100,000 title deeds that await issuance.

What indeed is the true basis for ownership of immovable property on the Island? The ECJ must surely acknowledge that the ROC system is a total shambles and simply cannot be relied upon.

Little consolation I know, but it looks like we are all up one hell of a gum tree!

Waz

I predicted sometime ago that the title deed problem in the South would become as big as the UK MP expenses scandal.

I understand that a fair few ROC title deeds that are lodged with the land registry in the South have been altered/falsified etc.

Now the chickens have come home to roost.

It is reported in the Famagusta Gazzette that the ROC government are not going to do anything about it and they quote the figure as 130,000.

Makes the 3 to 5 years in the TRNC seem not so bad after all...

Sounds like an opportune excuse to kick them out of the EU , bearing in mind they got in under false pretences in the first place.

Dear AJ

re msg 11

>>I understand that a fair few ROC title deeds that are lodged with the land registry in the South have been altered/falsified etc. <<

As you are the man telling us that the UK Foreign Office Website is "GC propaganda" ( this very evening, on another thread) - could I respectfully point out to you that that very web site has carried this warning re buying property in CY ( anywhere in CY- for over 3.5 years) and I ( the perceived GC sympathizer) have posted the warning - several times - on this very board- that one should only buy a pad in CY ( anywhere) with recognised title deeds..

Do remember - if you please - that the ECHR state that the RoC land registry is the starting place re title deeds in 1974 - if someone has evidence of title alteration - then this should be filed at a RoC Court - in the first instance- and can be taken higher - outside of CY - if it is felt that justice isn't being done..

BTW: Nigel Howarth is a sound bloke..

I(cont)

As I said before.. finding a pad that has title deeds in the "south" isn't difficult and if one pays cash at the Land Registry one gets the deeds in weeks - I know I've done it...

The folk having probs are the ones buying on the new developments and the deeds aren't released until the Banks are satisfied that the development is finished and all planning controls passed and all loans against the properties are paid off.. In many instances the loans AREN'T cleared and the banks aren't releasing their covenants.
