Hi, can anyone give me directions to Ledra Street in the North. I know how to get there in the South (just keep walking to the end of the road) but have never managed to find the North entrance.

Cheers

Hi Karen

We went there yesterday - but as for directions ..... sorry, but I'll try!

Walk past the front entrance of the Buyuk Han, then take the first road on the right (don't follow the road round to the Bundabula(???), it's about the 3rd turning on the left. (I think!!)

They've set up the booths for the officials, but not much else to see at the moment - you have to step up on a broken stool someone's left there to see over the top of the barricade.

Been confirmed that unficyp have completed mine sweeping the area, clearing the way for both sides to start on the clean up work that is needed before the crossing can be open,

Orangekazzie,

As you drive into Lefcosa from Girne go over the big roundabout with the statue on it and just keep going straight.

Look out for the little yellow signs on lamp posts and they will direct you. When you get to a one way system you need to go right the way round it in order to take the "3 o'clock" exit if you know what I mean.

Once you get to this one way system, you are virtually there

Good luck

Hi paul , hope you are well , went to a dinner dance last night , so got a sore head this am, i feel moribund { my own fault } but it was worth it ! yeh that has to be taken as a positive step forward , and of course it is good news , i'm not a pessimist , and would like to see thing's progressing positivly , but i just have this niggling feeling about it , i'm probably wrong , and i hope i am , only time will tell

have a good w/e , pat

Pat,you dirty stop out you should be ashamed of yourself. If its any consolation i feel the same after a works night out last night.According to what i have read about ledra its supposed to open at the end of next week, but i too have my doubts and will believe it when it happens.Things do seem to be changing though so fingers crossed.Enjoy your week-end,

Paul.

Good morning jemiem,

I would imagine there will still be a security presence and you will still have to show documentation as you are still crossing a border,

Paul.

If you are talking about the crossing which is due to open next week, Lokmaci, then the answer is no. This is a pedestrian crossing and joins the two main shopping areas of the Capital. With regards to hire cars, you can not take cars from North to South.

are people getting confused here between the Ledra Street crossing and the Ledra Palace. The latter has been open for ever. Its the former which is about to open.

Hi Orangekazzie,

People on the forum seem to be getting confused with the two crossings, yes. Some of the directions you have been given on this thread are clearly for Ledra Palace. As the crow flies they are only about 1km apart! Even so, Ledra Palace is still only a pedestrian crossing for the general public. CD registration vehicles and military vehicles can only use the Ledra Palace crossing.

The best way to not get the two confused is to refer to the new crossing in it's Turkish form, Lokmaci.
