We are moving in to house in Lapta 10th September. Basically we're just got a one way flight and will hire a car at Larnaca for a week. What to I do at border; ask for 90 day Visa? Or just get standard visa (is that 30 days) then renew it at Girne police station? Will need to get 2 beds, table, seats etc in first few days and buy a car. Expect funds will last for few months then will get a new contract job back home to replenish funds. Hopefully move out full time in about this time next year. Any help / advice will be welcome.

So I need a reliable car, any offers?

Norman1, good luck to you. You seem to be taking a chance but with a kind of back up plan as well. Hope it all works out for you and would suggest that you ask for 90 days at the border then begin your residency process as quick as you can whilst you still have money in the bank to prove you can support yourself here.

There are lots of bits and things on the For Sale section of this board and you should be able to fill your needs from within that section.

I have been selling my Freelander for a month now but I guess it is just too expensive at the moment at £8K - that is another thing that will surprise you here, the cost of second hand cars is stupid compared to UK but then this is not UK and you just have to live with it.

Good luck again and keep asking questions on here - you will get replies but not all may be to your liking.

norman how long are you staying this time

if you are within your 90 days on visa dont apply for residency till the permanent move as this will cost you more money and is not required until you come here full time.

you can contact me off board if you require further info we are now on our 4 year here

Hi Norman,

You might not find the car hire company in Larnaca too happy if you are wanting a one way hire. I would book a car in the North and take a ttaxi to the border or some car hire companies will assist in meeting you in Larnaca.

We offer Oscar cars at a discount rate see http://www.flightholiday.co.uk

Hi Norman

If you're looking for a cheap car to get around in, I have a white 1993 Renault 9 Broadway for sale. (very popular over here). It's a good runner with recent service and MOT. Not luxurious but reliable - no aircon or abs, but it does offer electric windows and a radio/CD player, as well as cheap tax and easy-to-find parts! £2200 o.n.o. taxed, tested and insured for 12 months.

If you're interested please email me on ak-london@hotmail.com
