If you are calling/faxing from the UK, it would be:

00 90 392 xxx xxxx

Well done Izzet. I often see people give the numbers in the wrong format, for example as 009 0392 xxx xxxx. Some may say that it is the same difference but for me it is not.

+ stands for international code which is now universally 00. We had all sorts years ago.



90 is the international code for Turkey

392 is the area code for Cyprus (our telecommunications is part of Turkey)



Hence as Izzet put it +90 392 xxx xxxx is the correct way to do it. Now if you are phoning from Turkey, you take away the country code but start off with a zero which is the common practice for calling other areas For example if I am calling Ankara from TRNC, I would dial 0 312 xxx xxxx, or if I wish to dial a Turkcell number, 0533 xxx xxxx. The area code for Turkcell in TRNC is 533 and for Telsim (Avea) 542.

this was even in some tourism ministry publications in the past!
