A user error has caused the 40 names to be deleted, so can all those who signed the petition before this post was created please resign the petition on http://www.northcyprusfreepress.com/2009/11/17/pauline-reads-petition-against-obscene-bank-lending-policies

RE msg 1, malsancak: (...) A user error has caused the 40 names to be deleted, (...)

=> (…) Due to a user error the database has been wiped (…) Excuse me?! A database without a backup?! Whole TRNC websites have disappeared because of the lack of a backup and obviously that was not enough to realise the necessity of backing up at least daily and preferably hourly. “We learn from history that we never learn from history.” (Enlart, 1899).

the database was being added to so quickly that a daily backup would miss many petitioners and backing up hourly??? Current backups are now being done after every 5 signatures

RE msg 8, malsancak: (...) backing up hourly??? (...)

=> Yes, indeed. On my Mac I use SynchronizePro 6.x - the software checks my hard drive (every hour, in the background) for changes in files and synchronises the backup drive on the fly. There must be similar software for PC's.

Every change in my sites on my server in Holland is mirrored to another server when the change occurs.

It is my strong belief that backing up is one of the most underestimated aspects of computing. I wouldn't like to lose the more than 20.000 maps and many data bases I made and keep on my hard drive!
