Hi all,

Need some advice,

We will shortly be staying in the Kyrennia area, and our daughter is working in napa for the summer. We want her to come over to the north as she has never been.the idea is for us to drive to the closest border to kyrennia leave our car in the north and for her to drive from napa leave her vehicle in the south, and walk over to meet us.which crossing would be best for us to meet at.and what would be directions and distances,

Regards,

Paul.

Paul,

The best crossing is Barton Upon Humber, travelling south on the A15.

The best crossing from Napa to Kyrenia is via Pile.

have to agree with doghnuts40 that Pile is the easiest for Kyrenia/Napa. The other option would be the Famagusta crossing.

Hi all,

You mention earlier of a crossing called Pile. But there is no mention of it on here.Does it come under another name. The ones that i have found are Ayios Nikolaos (Akyar) or Strovillia or the pergamos crossing also known as beyamudu or dhekelia i assume the reason for the three different names is english, greek and turkish.

I need the closest one to napa. And the closest one to Girne with directions if poss,

Regards,

Paul.

The town in Greek is called Pyla and is easy to find and pretty quite I have attached a link to a previous post by suntanman with excellect directions from Larnaca Airport to Esentepe via Pile / Pyla you would just have to keep following the main road to Girne and you avoid most of the traffic.

If you are driving from Ayia Napa, the quickest route I have found is the Famagusta crossing, but it is not easy to find. We wre lucky, some locals took us for a meal one evening from Protraras, and happened to say 'the border to the north is just up this road'!

Drive north through Paralimni to Dyrenia, turn left at the traffic lights to Frenaros, then there is a right turn signposted Vrysoulles, continue to the end and at T junction turn right, the border is a few km further along.

It took us about 30 mins from Protraras to the border.

A slight revision to the directions Aussie kindly gave the link to from a previous post of mine.

As you are aproaching Dortyol from Pyla (you can't miss the Mosque) there is a right turn at a small supermarket, sorry I can't remember the name, this brings you to the crossroads where you go straight ahead to Gecitkale. If you miss the right turn, when you come to the main road you can only turn left. We made this mistake last time and had to double back on ourselves at the next junction.

Hope that makes sense.

Beyarmudu, (Pergamos greek name) is the nearest crossing. It is quiet and it is not necessary to go through Pyla from the south side. From Napa take Dhekalia exit turn right at base police station (400yds) keep going turn right at tee junction. Border 1/2 mile.

Ayios Nikolaos is the Famagusta crossing, much quieter than the Pyla crossing, but after leaving the border it does mean driving through the outskirts of Famagusta and there is a bit more traffic than the Pyla route.

We've got a good road map of Cyprus and have marked journey times on it. It's a bit confusing with place names as they're all in Greek.

From Famagusta to Dortyol (Prastio) 15 mins, from there to Gecitkale (Lefkonoiko) 10 mins, from that junction to Esentepe (Amvrosios) 20 mins. Then it's about 20 mins drive to Girne.

There is a big parking area by the border. all she will need is her passport and fill in the Turkish paper visa. Then stroll across.
