In a hot air balloon where you can get a panoramic view of all the beautiful Historical sights in contrast to the urban concrete monstrosities!

Welcome Uncle-Ted. It depends whether you like the hustle & bustle & traffic congestion as you'd get in Girne or whether you're looking to buy somewhere less busy and with a more' villagey' feel. Either way good luck.

Neil,

you've got to think about access to schools and how long for... what are the ages?

Lots of really nice places to live.......but I strongly recommend that you rent before you buy..not only does it give you the opportunity to live in an area for a while to see if its right for you and your family it also allows you to move elsewhere if you so wish. Also and possibly more importantly buying in NC does carry some well published risks which you should be aware of and although its very much a buyers market just now if you do buy and then have to sell it might just be a problem that you don't need or want....Anyway welcome to the forum and good luck in your search

OK I see they are 16 & 9 for school ages...

Then I would suggest, either Sunny Lane (soon to be renamed 'British Academy of Northern Cyprus') or the English School of Kyrenia as options for education.

ESK is in Bellapais and you could live anywhere between Karakum and Esentepe for ease of access to school.

SLS is in Alsancak our son goes there and is doing very well as his sister did before him. We live in Esentepe and love the area the people the peace but the access to amenities is not so instant. The bus journey to school is a bind but we manage and it's not for ever.

We are still glad we chose to live here and we lived in Alsancak for 13 months but it was far too noisy.

We live in Alsancak........... and love it.

Only 5 miles out of Girne and very near to Sunny Lane

RENT FIRST...... then when you buy you will have ,hopefully, checked everywhere out.

Whenever we are out and about either here or in Lefkosa and the locals ask where we live, when we say Alsancak the are very impressed and say wheat a lovely place.

Hi Ted,

I live in Catalkoy and think it is wonderful, my daughter attends Sunny Lane and although it is quite a distance, the school bus picks her up at the doorstep and drops her off every day.

As everyone has suggested, rent first and find out your own preferences.

uncle-ted - welcome to the board!!

I see you like the sound of Bogaz? Lovely area, I'd say, but perhaps a little far out if you are thinking of sending your children to Sunny Lane School? Perhaps somewhere a little nearer might be preferable?

Just a thought

Good luck.

Definitely sunny Lapta on the sea side with the mountains as a back drop and a warm breeze in the summer. Plenty pubs / restaurants we can walk to but far enough away so we don't hear any noise.

If you like golf and the quiet life you can't beat Karagaac, mountain back drop sea views and so peaceful and quiet it's unreal, and the golf course is only just about a mile and a half along the road.

Love the Bogaz / Famagusta side.

Dont know much about the schools in that area but do know some send them accross the border to the forces schools.

Great local life or city life in Famagusta if you want it. Fab beaches, lovely people and a good mix of locals and expats.

Rent first and enjoy yourselves

When you're looking around make sure you go back in the evenings as well as some areas are prone to bar noise all the time and some just at weekends. It gets even worse in the summer when everything moves outside, happy hunting....

Actually the majority of the restaurants are Cypriot as well.

Pretty much all of North Cyprus has something to offer and probably best to avoid the provincial-minded "Them-and-Us" brigade who insist on importing their Northerners-vs-Southerners nonsense to Cyprus and sometimes attempt to revive it with some sort of spurious East-vs-West (of) Girne distinction. Thankfully, there aren't too many of "them sorts" as it's patently obvious that all of North Cyprus has a lot to offer.

Re Msg 50: I can assure you that the huge majority of persons in Lapta are Cypriot. Too, if I really cared about demographics I might caution you to avoid throwing stones whilst in a glasshouse. Prior to the great recent influx, areas East of Acapulco had tiny populations compared to those areas West of there. So you'll find that proportionally the expats/cypriot ratio is probably thicker in your neck of the woods than ours. If I cared that is...

Agree with message 57 all of North Cyprus is worth considering. This east/west thing is just a tease really, like the north/south in UK, there is good and bad everywhere, but in NC most is good.

Bogaz is best - beautiful beaches on this side of the Island .The harbour is picturesque with a few restaurants and bars. Karpaz is to die for!! Friendly people both Turkish Cypriots and ex pats. Not too built up either.

About 30 minutes to Famagusta - old walled city is fantastic.

For what it's worth, I had an e-mail from Neil this morning, explaining that this was obviously a case of "Mistaken Identity" on my part.

Surely a mistake many of us could have made, given the number of coincidences?

Re: Msg 38,

I for once agree with Jeannie.

All this person is doing is asking where do you live and peddling some fantasy book.

And why each thread he/she had started had to go back on top 1 billion times !!! It is also against the rules.

Clarissa2, I've told one thousand million times don't exaggerate!

Why have you chosen to post your venom and make it go BTTT thus achieving what you are arguing against?

Just don't read it! You and Jeannie are starting to sound like control freaks who only want their friends to post here...

Oh, and what 'rule' have they transgressed?

Rule 12 is only relevant in the 'for sale' category..

As it happens 'Ted' I don't think you need to use BTTT as there are enough people posting in any case....

Groucho, just because they have fooled you do not take it out on others, perhaps they were on Cyp44 when you were on your self imposed exile. The games up!

To say you have only just joined the forum you do seem quite well informed, as my old uncle-ted used to say things are not always what they seem !!

everon, I will enlighten you further, as a lot of threads started by Kimandneil1 where closed and cannot now be retrieved.

They joined the forum last year asking questions about moving to NC and all was going fine with their posts until someone said something negative (like rent first) things would quickly turn nasty especially towards (the then) Wicks and hattikens, they would use phrases like:

"use to be older ladys use to sit at home and knitt now they seem to sit on computers and bitch what is it coming to

and they say the young ones are bad"

They were banned, but kept coming back under different guises, so you can see why people are a bit suspicious.

Uncle Ted/Everon

I do not have a problem, I am not bitching nor am I bored, I am merely stating the fact that there are many similarities with the postings of Kim and Neil last year.

By the way, I am not old either, more mature like a good wine. 60 is the new 40 !!!

Vicky

Just to set the record straight I had no dealings with Kim and Neils posts last year, I did not post on any of their threads but did read them., hence the similarity.

Hi, I don't know who are Kim and Neil and I don't mind. Here some info about the original topic of this post:

- All the places from Karsiyaka to Çatalköy are great to retire, but I think the closer to Girne, the better, because the busy traffic converts a 5-minutes trip in a 20-minutes one. The best place: some quiet area in Girne city. That's near the road to Nicosia, and you will need to go to Nicosia frequently.

- Nicosia: terrible place, ugly and noisy city. But you can still can find some quiet areas. And the big advantage: easy to cross to South Nicosia, where you can find more shops and cultural activities. It's near the airports, but there are not ex-pats there (OK, maybe a few). I don't recommend Nicosia for living, but that's depending on your needs.

- Famagusta: beautiful and active city. Shops open Sundays and some till late night. The only problem: far from everywhere, like Lefke, in the West.

So who ever you are uncle-ted, Kim and Neil, Joe Boggs, Andy Capp, Lord Ashton, Jordon, ....Lapta has every thing you possibly could ever want.....

Carndi - I guess it may be about publicising a book or books.

In the same way that I thought "Kim and Neil" was publicity for a development at Iskele, and an estate agent (who claimed on this board to be agents for them).

He emailed me too, what a little love he is

Hello

My name is Neil but i am sure you know that, see your Email is "LADY" well to me you are not that, a 63 year old women whom has nothing better to do than interfere with things, makes me sick. my grandparents have integrity, morals both mental and physical, a understanding for others, the values i live by with my self and my family. it does not make a difference if we are Neil and Kim, jack and Jill peter and god dam paul, there is something called respect and respect for others, you have said yourself in the forums that you did not know Neil and Kim, so why comment on that, there is no moral understanding there, just a gossip. gossips fine when it is not done in a spiteful or vindictive way and not hurting any one, its all to do we moral fiber. Kim sent you an e-mail, that is in confidence, and as you have no integrity you posted a private message on the forum, this upset my wife and i will not stand for that. i think you nee

Continued.

i think you need to log off take 5 minutes and work out the meanings of life and how precious life is. don't care if you believe me or not but since the age of 17 and a half i have been in every conflict the UK has been involved in,i have killed and i have had friends be killed, and believe me it give you a pure reality of life and its meaning, something i hold dear.

Please post this on the forum, you have my permission, but i know you wont, its that moral fiber thing again.

hope you are ashamed of your self

If you think you have a grip on reality young man then God Help you, you dare to question my morals and integrity, you dare to mention respect, you don't know the meaning of it. You have come on this forum again, for whatever reason, telling untruths which are clear to everyone and then you get on your high horse when this is pointed out. In future if you have anything to say to me you say it on this forum for all to see, I am not ashamed of anything I have to say so why should I keep it private.

Wherever you choose to live in TRNC I just hope it's not near me, your sort I can do without, you are pathetic.

Well, I suppose they are not pretending to be anyone else now - I think message 121 says it all really. I suppose they are more to be pitied than blamed, although having said that, I remember the trouble they caused on here before. As usual, I was accused of being the "miserable old cow", etc. but that does not matter. These people, as far as I am concerned, have serious mental problems and should seek help.

Vicki - I have looked an 'another' forum, fully expecting them to be there - perhaps I am looking at the wrong one?

By the way, Paul has received another e-mail, so Hattikins, don't think you're still in the lead
