Tomorrow, Sunday May 16, is a positive day for TRNC tourism: Corendon, the Turkish carrier, based in the Netherlands, will start a long series of flights from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport. Around 5 pm the first fully booked flight with Dutch tourists to TRNC will arrive at Ercan International Airport. Many flights in the coming months are fully booked already.

The tourists will stay in top hotels west and east of Girne. The Corendon 8 days holidays in TRNC start from only 299 Euros (255 Sterling) - including the flight, hotel and breakfast.

Girne: yesterday I have spoken with a Dutch representative of Corendon following interest of British board members with relatives in The Netherlands and looking for cheap(er) flights. British people looking for a cheap flight Ercan -> to Amsterdam (Corendon) -> to UK (Ryan Air, EasyJet?) have also shown interest. I'll receive information in the next days and will keep interested British updated here.

Not looking good for tomorrow as a new volcanic ash warning has just been broadcasted for most of Europe.

The warning is for tomorrow so, no doubt, the meteorologists are giving out the best they can do as a prediction. No accounting for wind!

Hans, Is it the same touchdown in Turkey as with CTA and Pegasus from UK?

RE msg 5, Tootie: (...) For most of Europe Richard? (...)

=> Quote: "Warning of ash flight disruption. Parts of the UK's airspace are at risk of closure from Sunday because of volcanic activity in Iceland, the Department for Transport has said. Disruption could hit airports in south-east England until Tuesday, it warned."

South-east England is a big space but not half as big as Europe.

Besides back to the thread, The Corendon flight will go ahead. But is there a touchdown in Turkey?

RE msg 7, Tootie: (...) Hans, Is it the same touchdown in Turkey as with CTA and Pegasus from UK? (...)

=> Sorry, Tootie, I know the answer but it will only be officially known when the Corendon plane touches down at Ercan International Airport.

Whatever en however - it will be done. I'm very pleased that Corendon opens the TRNC market for Dutch tourists also. The country where we've chosen to live can use some assistance, can't it?

Today, 4.50 hrs pm: 200 Dutch holidaymakers landed at Ercan! And the future looks very promising. What a day! I'm now a slightly bigger minority in the island...

P.S. Did the Corendon plane touch down at Istanbul, Antalya or anywhere else before flying to Ercan..?

P.P.S. Watch local TV and read the local papers...

If it was a Boeing 737 the rows could have construed as been double Dutch!

Great news, but I hope there is no flight planned for today as both Amsterdam Schiphol and Rotterdam are closed.
