The answer to your question is yes, erm sorry no, but then again! I guess what I am trying to say is that if you want it to be open then just use it like everyone else even if it is closed!

As I understand, following an accident a week or so ago, the police advised the contractors to block it off, on the grounds that it was dangerous. They did this and for a few days and it was impossible to get onto it.

Yesterday, it was again possible to use it, which I did, from one end to the other. As usual there were contractor's vehicles working and traffic using both carriageways in both directions, so no problem.

The only strange thing about all this is that the police have just cottoned onto the fact that it is dangerous.

To answer the original question, is it officially open? NO, probably!

If you have a tank which can crash through the barricades and get over the mounds of earth, then yes. And also if you want to frighten me to death when I am trying to cross over the Karmi junction, then please carry on!

Barricades seem to have largely gone. I go up and down there regularly and wonder just how bad it is going to be to get across that junction when the road is properly open. Even worse will be turning right up to Karmi when coming from the West.

Lethal as you crossroads will be, it pales into insignificance when considering the death trap they have created with the roundabout at the top of the GAU road. Coming along the road in either direction you can't even see that there is a roundabout on which the traffic has priority over those coming down the dual carriageways.

Drove over two big mounds of earth that were trying to block the east bound carrigeway at 04:00 this morning so I guess it is still closed! However, if you have a Pajero then the road is always open.........................
