Can anyone help. I wish to go back to UK and thinking of taking my car (Ibought here). In your opinion would this be a wise move and what would the costs be?



For instance how much would say a twenty foot container be? I assume that would be big enough to take some bits of furnitue and a car?



Any feed back would be appreciated.

Try Jo Valentine for a container price.

I would have thought that you would be able to get a similar car in the UK for less than the total import cost (including the possibility of licencing a "non standard" car) taking into acount what you could sell your car for.

Approx £2700 - £3000 for a container. Ask Fusion Freight that was the quote we got in June this year..... pack yourself and he provides the boxes...... Very nice man very helpful too. Sue

Thank you all, am finding it difficult to sell here thats why i thought of taking it with me. It cost 12500 subaru looks like the sti but isnt just a 1500 cc, not everyones cup of tea! but if you know of anyone that may be interested let me know...........beautiful looking car!



Ps how do you acutally pack the container yourself! im just a lady on her own! Sorry if that is a daft question.....whole thing very daunting!!!!

Jambo if you read the ads in the cyprus today you will see that it costs just under £1000 all incl to get your car back to uk and no you dont pack container youself

If you have owned this vehicle for at least 6 Months in a 12 month period and have evidence of this i.e. proof of purchase/bill of sale/

you are allowed by UK Customs to Import without duty/vat. as used personal items upon moving back to u.k.

You are required to complete a customs form before release here in UK.



You are not allowed to hire or sell this vehicle whilst in UK for 12 Months.

Insurance must be held to move the car from the customs port once here

I have owned this car since Feb2009, but I do not have "bill of sale" this is TRNc no such thing in my experience but i do have insurance docs from last year and ofcourse the "log book". Do you think this would be sufficient?

My TC [London Cypriot] friend took his 1 year old Honda CRV 4x4 back to the UK and it cost him a LOT of money to convert the vehicle to EU specification. One item he mentioned was the whole dashboard binnacle, which includes the speedometer - his TRNC imported car was in Km's and UK demands Imperial miles - that alone cost £300 +, then there were front and rear fog lamps and all the wiring involved. Even the window glass, in many TRNC imported vehicle makes does not confirm to British standards - be very careful to check your Subaru's specification before committing to shipping the vehicle back to UK!

Jambo you will have to prove to Customs that the vehicle you are importing is up to EU standards.This information should be on your log book.If not Customs Engineers will do a full inspection and inform you of the changes that have to be made before the car can be imported.This is normally includes the replacement of all the windows ,the exhaust system to list a few.A costly process.Look at the market value of the car in the UK then set your price in the TRNC.I did this when I sold mine and got more than I would of if I had taken it back to the UK.You will probally loose money in terms of TRNC value but its a lot less hassle and the money you get will get you a good car back here in the UK.

Very wise, 'jambo', because otherwise the travelling, hassle and expense you will face, if your vehicle does not meet EU specs., will almost 'put you in an early grave'.



And don't these Customs officials, as 'Catalkoykid' said, wherever in the world, just love to be as difficult as possible!



We lived in Paphos. We decided to return to New Zealand and take out Toyota Landcruiser with us, as it was only two years old. Well, when we ariived in NZ and tried to clear the car, I won't even go into the hassle they gave us - even saying the seat belts didn't comply with NZ regs!



Everyone should be VERY aware that Cyprus - North & South - imports the cheapest, lowest spec. [sometimes faulty/recall] vehicles for their NEW sales, and that is why it is better to buy a Jap/Singapore, 2nd hand vehicle, which the Cyp's agents buy for them at these massive Japanese auctions. In NZ, these vehicles were checked to see if they had been 'clocked' [mileage wound back]

That stopped that caper as far as NZ imports were concerned. However, the Cypriots get many of their imported vehicles 'clocked'. My old Uncle John got caught like that with a Toyota Rav 4 - after he bought it, the second I looked at it, I said: 'Oh, no, - you didn't, Uncle John!'



Actually, the Jap. government later ordered that mileage checks be made on these vehicles prior to export, but as usual, the 'crims' always find a way round the regs. !!!



Maybe someone in the motor trade would like to confirm, or deny, the above?

Your msg 20 coins the situation, exactly - however, please try to think of your 'cup as half full, and NOT as half empty' - even though we are currently trapped in a racist, virtually totally amoral third world type republic where the 'powers that be' have made their poisition quite clear to the outside world - to thrive on licentiousness!

I bought a brand new vehicle in Belgium and imported it into the UK. It was a Mercedes and it needed a 'homogulation' certificate and even though it was brand new from a Mercedes dealer it still had to be inspected in the UK - the spec was different and the paperwork took about 3 months so a secondhand Non EU vehicle is sure to be more of a pain.



Would your stuff fit in a big van - coming back next month from TRNC

i would say 100% sell the bloody car in the trnc .... 2 reasons .... im in the car biz in uk and your car no matter what model it is,,, will be worth under half price ... now here comes the big sting as trnc is NOT in the EU, it will be subject to around 10 %duty and soon to be 20% VAT just to register it here,[im i uk right now] it will crucify you .... my biz was moving vehicles form country to country all around the world ,,,so unless the rules have changed recently.. i am quite well versed on this subject .. good luck ...

Tiga Trading have a few Scoobies on their forecourt. Why don't you try asking to either buy the car from you, sell it on your behalf, or put you in touch with another trader who might give you hard cash for the car? You'd save yourself a whole lot of hassle and expense!

If you are having trouble selling your car in NC, just take a look on autotrader.com, and check out the UK price, for sure you will be able to replace it or similar in the UK for a fraction of the price.

Now, put your car up for sale here for an amount to replace it in the UK, and it will sell instantly here as it will be so cheap, and you will save also the shipping cost.

Easy.

If you was to take your car back to the uk but have no reicept of purchase the customs would base it on the wholesale price of the vehicle.

Get the vehicle checked over before to see weather it conforms to eu standards, its not as complicated as you think to import a vehicle to the uk its corect what message 12 is telling you.

Try Euromed they are much cheaper than Olytrans or Jo Valentines, I imported a bike, Olytrans wanted over £2000 Jo Valentine wanted £1400 Euromed did it for £600.

Many people are still fooled by this place and the smiling faces of the authorities, They are not smiling but smirking! I'm from a tiny island where the people could once be likened to these. Most regrettably, too many people have been inescapable victims of Cyprus [North & South] fraud, which, in any civilised society, the *perpetrators would not be able to get away with. What *they fail to realise is that they are their own worst enemies, because their short term gains will, if this lawlessness continues, be their ultimate downfall. If, or rather, when Turkey takes over administration of TRNC, they will be as ruthless with TC's as they are with certain minority groups in Turkey. As it is, mainland Turks consider TC's to be a mob of bludgers [UK = spongers] - there is 'no love lost' between them!



The TC's are certainly 'between the devil and the deep blue sea', because they have only two choices - throw their lot in with the Greek Cypriots, or allow themselves to be annexed by Turkey. Whichever 'Hobson's Choice' they choose, or is ultimately foisted on them, they risk the wrath of either!
