President Derviş Eroğlu and the Greek Cypriot leader Dimitris Christofias resumed talks today aimed at reaching a comprehensive solution to the Cyprus Problem. The meeting lasted for 2 hours.

The leaders confirmed the progress achieved by their Special representatives at their last two meetings on the chapters of EU Matters and Economy.

Issuing a statement upon his return to the Presidential Palace, President Derviş Eroğlu said that they confirmed the progress achieved by their aides Kudret Ozersay and Yorgo Yakovou on EU Matters and Economy.

The President also said that the aides will meet tomorrow to continue to take up the issues of EU Matters and Property.

‘We have also given them the duty to take up the issue of Governance and Power Sharing during their meetings next week so that this issue can also be included during our next meet on Friday” said the President.

Answering reporters’ questions, Eroglu confirmed media reports that property experts from the UN arrived in Cyprus and are holding separate meetings with Cyprus Turkish and Greek Cypriot officials to provide technical assistance on the Property issue.

Referring to the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon’s Cyprus report that will be presented to the UN Security Council at the end of this month, the President repeated that the Turkish Side presented a practical plan towards a settlement during the Geneva meeting while the Greek Cypriot Side maintained its intransigent stance.

He noted that the Greek Cypriot officials are holding some contacts in order to prevent the inclusion of any criticizing remarks against them in Ban’s upcoming report.

Meanwhile, UN Secretary’s Special Representative to Cyprus Lisa Buttenheim who hosted today’s meeting, told reporters that the leaders confirmed the progress achieved by the special representatives during their meetings on the chapters of EU matters and economy.

She said the leaders also discussed procedural matters and planned the dates of future meetings.

The two leaders will meet again next Friday on the 25th of February while their special representatives will meet again tomorrow and on Monday and Wednesday next week.

Yea but......... what is actually happening. this is a nice lot of words that sound no different to previous lots of nice words. Are we going anywhere, or are the talks like Topal's third staircase 'going nowhere just for show.?

I reckon that is how most people view it.



Talks about talks, meetings about meetings,blah blah blah ad infinitum.



They ought to stop reporting the "talks" and just break the news if and when anything actually happens.
