We are here for four months however we were given only a 90 day entry permit. We have went South twice but both times the amount of time already in the North was deducted so we are now down to 60 days. On our last crossing we requested 90 days as that is the date of our return flight however were refused. Has anyone some idea how to get an extention to cover the additional 30 days? Question were we to book a weekend in Turkey and return would new entry permit be issued for 90 days? We thank you in advane for reply

If you are an EU citizen you will get a minimum of 30 days if you go to Turkey for the weekend but probably you will get another 90. Looks like you need to go the day before your 90 days expires, spend 3-4 days there & then even if you only get another 30 days this will last the rest of your holiday.

Go to the migration department at Girne Police Station with all of your relevant documents and explain the situation. They should be able to help.

BUCKING THE SYSTEM?????

What system are you on about?

Look...here it is..you can cross the border and get 90 days about 3 times in a year, after that you must get a residency. If you can prove (by showing your return ticket) you should be able to get an extension at the border. If you plan on staying here, but do not have the required amount in your bank account (i believe about 10k)then leaving the island is a must,as the border control will start cutting down your legal stay here.

What is the point of going through all the trauma of getting a residency permit if you're only needing another month?? Use your noggin!

DD I know this is off topic, but I have just had my residency renewed and I don't have 10k in my account so that fact is incorrect , when I first got my residency I was told I had to have 1k in the account.:=)

Moritzkatz:Ozankoys have given you good advice.NC man:They are not willingly bucking the system. The system needs to be flexable with seemingly genuine visitors.Geoff:True it is not difficult but they are seemingly genuine visitors.Let them stay and spend more money to help TRNC government to pay its overdue debts!!!

Well said Roley!

moritzkatz- I'm pretty sure if you fly over to Turkey for the day and re-enter at Ercan you will be given 90 days. The same can not be said for non-EU passport holders (usually 30 days). I believe its only about 120tl to Adana rtn and back home for tea!

Just had a look at Pegasus- (flypgs.com ) Ercan-Adana-Ercan, 14th April, TOTAL 147TL incl. taxes

If you want to stay overnight I understand its only a 20 min walk to the city centre where you can take advantage of some cheap and modern shopping/ eating.

Take AJ's advice and ask at Girni immigration if you don't ask you don't get

From what you say you have a valid reason to stay over with the house sale as previously posted

If not take a days break in Turkey

for all those border hopping south of the boarder there are fines that apply if you overstay your original 90 days from entry even though you get 90 days or less stamped at the border

good luck

Re No.11: Roley, he says he has a residents permit, but his wife does not (for tax reasons). That does not make THEM visitors, it makes his WIFE a visitor
