When I opened mine in '05 it was £40,000 (£200,000 in UK). After about 1 year you can open a Premier account in the UK (or any other country) based on having one in Cyprus and without meeting UK requirements. I believe interest rates are the same for all accounts.

The Premier lounge at Istanbul airport is open 24/7 and entry is gained by presenting a Premier debit or credit card. There is plenty of free food and drink (including alcohol), comfortable seating, left luggage lockers, international newspapers, showers etc. and generally altogether better than sitting around the main airport (if you can find a seat). It is hardly worth joining Premier for, but a nice bonus if Premier meets your other banking needs.
