We are looking to move to the TRNC in October after many years of travelling too and Fro. House and kocin all sorted. The Forum has already been most helpful with shippers, thank you.

We have a couple of short trips booked prior to the move and would welcome any tips on things we should be doing, whilst we are there, to prepare the ground.

We are feeling very positive about our plans, so I would request that the more cynical of posters keep any negative vibes to themselves!

Just bring your guitar (Spanish) and discretely strum in the corner of any bar and you'll be surprised how quickly you'll become popular!

Hi Rockingace

We made the mistake of buying all our white goods in the TRNC at a much higher price

Than we could have bought them in the UK.

They where in our contract to be supplied by the builder?

Good luck

Sounds like you have done some homework, unlike some. However you must always be alert to the unexpected. You say you have house and Kojan under control, many people have thought that and been deceived, hope you are not another. Questions on electricity supply, water and vehicles are alway fraught with difficulty, to say nothing of land taxes and property taxes, which seem to form the basis of most complaint. I remember a chap and his wife who arrived here about the same time as me, some six years ago, I advised him that his builder had something of a reputation (not good) and he told me that he knew all was well, the guy would not cheat him. Well the guy did cheat him by building on someone elses land and as far as I know he is still trying to get recompense or settlement. Nothing here is simple, you need to work at it all the time, this forum gives lots of good advice and some not so good. Hope all goes well for you, if not, you can always ask for help, which may be too late.

I think you can get a second box and then just bring the card out & back as and when you travel backwards & forwards.

Interested to know if there is any "legwork" we need to do prior to getting residency permission, or whether we just sort it out once we are there?

As far as white goods are concerned, don't forget that anything you bring from UK will not be under guarantee and if anything should go wrong you will have to for repairs or replacement. Also, fridge/freezers need to be T (tropical) rated to cope with the heat here.

Good luck with your move and remember photocopy, photocopy, photocopy!

Oh one more thing, you will need a UK address if you want to be able to renew your UK driving licence at any time and it would also be useful to bring some passport size photographs as you will need them for residency and TRNC driving licences.

Bring a sense of humour and large pinch of salt for some of the things you will hear!
