My son and friends are coming out early July and wondered if there was anything they can do to help out

Is there a website to guide them to?

Thank you

Ian I was thinking the same just the other day but I have never seen anything ever posted about it. Someone said training was involved and I am not sure if you can start without the training course or not ie; join in once training has finished if your just visiting on holidays.

Like yourself it would be nice to hear from someone involved.

Not sure whether this is of any help as it gives details for students wanting to come out for much of the summer. It does have the contact information for the head of the project: A.C.Broderick@exeter.ac.uk, so if all else fails, you could email her. I had last year's website saved to my favourites, but unfortunately, have got a new computer.

If you go to the Turtle Centre at Aligardi Beach they will give you all the information, sorry have no contact info but went there last year and they were very helpful. It's signed off the main road.

SPOT The Society for the Protection of Turtles is extremely active and busy in TRNC at present. The website is http://www.cyprusturtles.org the Project Leader this year is Robin Snape. You can contact him via the website, or Patricia Dann who is the fundraiser for them. Alternatively you can visit the project HQ at Alagadi Beach for more info. Turtles are nesting at present along the coast and need all the help they can get. Anyone who wants to help can assist by creating awareness and collecting rubbish (thankless task) but every little helps. Please support this project in any way you can to prevent these wonderful creatures from becoming even more endangered. Thank you.

We were staying at the Sempati Hotel a couple of years ago and they had a load of info about it.

There was a lady (forgotten her name) who was heavily involved and looking for helpers who called in a couple of times during our stay.

The blog is a really good way of keeping daily tabs on what is happening out there:

http://turtleprojectcyprus.blogspot.com/2011/06/2011-season-underway.html#comments

They have posted already that the season is underway:

2011 season underway

Students have been at the Goat Shed in Alagadi since May 21st and so far the season has been very successful, with many green turtle nests on Alagadi and three satellite transmitters deployed so far ( http://www.seaturtle.org/tracking/?project_id=635).

The team are on the beach all night every night and we're now taking bookings for night watch.

By checking the blog on a regular basis, people can tell when the excavations are, and when is a good time to go over and watch the baby turtles making for the sea. It really is a sight to behold!!
