beautiful pools and well made.

I so wish all pools in TRNC where liner pools, the water that is wasted every day in the TRNC from wrongly built concrete and tiled pools that constantly leak is a huge problem, but one that is not addressed, plus all the extra chemicals you must keep adding if a pool leaks.

The only way forward in north cyprus for pools is a liner pool.

At the risk of disagreeing with you, a properly built concrete and tile pool will not leak. Our pools do not leak and the pools that we have repaired that have leaked in the past do not leak anymore. We have actually converted some liner pools to tiled as they had leaked like sieves.

Unfortunately, most/many buyers are tempted to buy a cheap pool and pay for it later in the cost of extra water and chemicals.

The problem is being addressed by Octopus Pools and always has been.

My reason for the liner option would be because of .

1.movement inthe land after build, and cracking.

2.most builders who build houses offer the choice of a pool, but they build the pool in most cases instead of farming it out to qualified pool builders.

So with that in mind only,i would choose a liner pool, unless i found TRNCVaughan prior to buying my house.

msg 4,

1. Pool foundations are as important as any other element of pool building. We always lay a very heavy concrete raft base BEFORE we even start building. Movement and consequent cracking can be avoided by careful preparation.

2. Builders who build pools often do farm the work out, but they farm it out to the cheapest subbie, not the one who is best value for money. Remember - Cheap doesn't equal good value for money, often the opposite.

3. Octopus Pools are well aware of the shortcomings of most pools built here - Poor design, poor materials, poor methods. In contrast we over-engineer our pools at every stage, and that costs money.

You pays your money and you takes your pick.

msg 5,

Chlorine has been the method of choice for pool sanitation for many, many years. It is the only substance that, to my knowledge, both disinfects AND oxidizes. There are other treatments but most fall short in that they do one or the other but not both. There is also the problem of some of them not having any residual effect.

What I am not in favour of is any treatment that is done in less frequent time periods that continuously. Contracted pool maintenance is usually carried out to a routine, often 2 visits per week in summer, when chemicals are administered. This leads to peaks and troughs of chemical strength, whereby on the day of treatment the level is too high, the next day about right and by the 3rd day none at all. In contrast public pools are often dosed continuously by means of sensors and dosing pumps, keeping the levels optimal at all times.

I currently favour the copper/silver oxide Aligator system where treatment is continuous, chlorine levels being no higher than UK tap water.

TRNCVaughan, I have been watching an Octopus pool in Karaagac which has taken up to now around 9 months and is still not finished. On this note I would chose a liner. A villa on the same site has a liner which took days to put in, the family being very pleased with it.

A liner pool does have the advantage of being quick and less disruptive than a concrete and tiled pool. Speed is of the essence in countries like the US, Australia, the UK and France where labour is expensive. In TRNC labour is the cheaper element compared to the cost of materials.

Financially, liner pools are a good deal in TRNC when the pound is strong compared to the dollar and/or Euro, as the two systems available here are American and French and paid for in Dollars or Euros. At the moment it is not a good time to pay for a liner pool in sterling at the current exchange rates.
