Royal St George's Golf Club - where the British Open is being held - has 2,500 male members but does NOT allow female members - in 2011!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why is such a knuckle dragging, neanderthal organisation allowed to exist? If it banned black, or disabled members say - there would be an outcry heard on the moon, but misogyny? no problem. One has to ask why the Queen doesn't take away the Royal patronage, considering she herself couldn't become a member; probably because her advisors are in the main - male? ergo see no problem in discrimination in this day and age, as they are not on the receiving end.

The sign once on display at the course that said "no women or dogs" was only removed a few decades ago.

There are many Golf Clubs that have male and female membership, why is the Tournament not held at one of them?

I would post if i knew how (mess 6)!! Peter Alliss says he can not join wvs! Daily Express thurs july 14th.

I live right next door to the club but right now I am in Cyprus and have left my wife to moan alone about the grid locked town!

Plus the article says 900 members not sure how correct that is.

Peter Allis is a pathetic old fool.

He actually said "I can’t join a club for chiropractors or gynaecologists, just like they can’t join my professional golf association". That would be, because he is neither a chiropractor or a gynaecologist! He also isn't a woman, which would preclude him from joining the "Women's Voluntary Service", set up in the late 1930's to aid the war effort, as most men were away fighting! What a risible remark, that he has to go back 70 years for an analogy that holds no water whatsoever, being totally out of context.

Both men and women play golf, so NO reason why women can't be members. There are thousands of financially solvent women who could afford the ludicrous fees charged by Royal St George, instead of only being alllowed to play if nominated by a member for the day - pffffffffffffffft!

I think the right to associate with like minded should be defended ! Men, as well as women, jews, muslims, black people etc. have a right to associate with each other, form clubs or other organisations and decide for themselves who should be allowed to join them ! It's up to them ! However, as Groucho Marx once remarked, " I wouldn't want to be a member of any club that would have me "
