If she has, or opens, a Nationwide Flex account she can draw Sterling out free of charge and then change it to Lira at one of the money exchanges or simply use Sterling and change will be given in Lira. There are 2 banks that I use in the Girne area to draw sterling, HSBC and TEB. Not sure if there are any others but I am sure someone will confirm if there are.

Message 1: Garanti Bank ATM outside Bektas Supermarket in Karaoglanoglu pays out Sterling so assume that other Garanti ATMs do as well.

I draw out Stg and pop into exchange for Lira. Been doing very well with this system lately!!

Halifax don't charge if I draw Stg. Stg. dispencers are 1) Garanti outside Bektas Supermarket in Karaoglanoglu. 2) Garanti outside Astro supermarket 3) Garanti just down from Deniz Plaza stationers 4) TEB near Mr. Pound 5) HSBC in Girne

There are obviously banks that give out Stg. on the East side but I don't know them. BTW Garanti and TEB will nearly always dispence Euro and Dollar as well.

Nation wide stopped the free withdrawal a year last May. We joined them a year last April to do just that. The only had the account a month and they withdrew the free banking

Redwine you are wrong you can still withdraw sterling, you must have the cash card account which you don't have the same facility, if you have a flex account with a debit card and cheque book and free travel insurance there isn't a problem, used mine in NC Dec and January not charged, there are posts on here somewhere explaining it all many people there use theirs. msg 1 if your daughter goes to Nationwide tell her to make sure she has the right account.

Redwine,

I use my nationwide debit card to draw out sterling every week and they do not charge me for this. I then go to the exchange shop across the road and change into lira. Nationwide will charge you if you are drawing out lira.
