Its that time again so was wondering what the queue was like at the police station now,and the best time to go, as it was hell last year. Also any new rules in place?

As early as you can! 7.30 seems good. they give out a set number of tickets and unless you get one, thats it for that day! good luck.

I went at 7 o'clock a couple of weeks ago and started a list with my name at the top. Hung around outside and by about 7.30 there was about 20 people there. The guy with the number tickets dished them out at around 8.15 and it was heaving by then. The first number they called (mine) was about 8.45. Same old, same old really!

Is this at Girne? If so, I never had any problem there before I left. Why, I wonder, is it so bad now?

We went last week. Arrived at 7.15 put name on list (we were number 18) officer came out at 8.20 to give out tickets by this time 34 names on list. We went in showed all relevant documents they give you another ticket for blood test and tell you to come back next day. Follwing day we arrived at 7am and put name on list ( 10th person) we were seen and out of there by 9.30.

Once we have put name on list and knowing the officer wont dish tickets out before 8 am we go for coffee, just outside police station on the right.....

Make sure you get a ticket for each person, a couple in front of us only had one ticket and officer refused to deal with them.

Its so bloody ridiculous that you need to wait around for hours just to get a form for a blood test, and then you have to go back and wait around again the next day for hours, to hand in your paperwork.

Message 4: the main reason that it is so bad now is the number of Turkish women there. The authorities have tightened up on the situation regarding wives of Turkish men who have work permits here. They didn't used to bother too much about the wives being here but now they insist that the wives have residency. Having said that, why the immigration office in Girne police station is only open for such a short time every day is stupidity beyond belief. Opening at (nominally!) 8.30 and closing at noon when there are obviously more people waiting than they can deal with in these hours is quite ridiculous. What the hell do they do during the afternoons?

I believe there is still a chap that does it from the driving school shop on the left as you go towards to police station. It did cost around £50 for their services but that was a while ago now.

Hi,

The girls at the driving school still offer this service- they go in the morning & get the tickets etc so you don't have to wait around.

Mess 9 - there used to be a chap called Louie who did the job, but he was no youngster so may have 'retired' by now. He could be contacted at the Pegasos restaurant.

Having said that, he wasn't allowed into the nick to do the Girne bit, but he told you what to do, ran you to the clinic for blood test, and did the Lefkosa stuff for you.

I do the police station bit myself as you have to go there in person anyway. I hand in my passport and the money and stamps to the girls at the driving school a couple of weeks later and they do the Lefkosa thing for me - costs about 60TL, 50 each if a couple I believe. Money well spent as far as I'm concerned as I don't want to bother with going to Lefkosa in this heat. It's the first driving school on the left when you turn in to the police station road. They normally get it done either the same day or next day at the latest.

Louie is still doing it, but not from Pegasus. He stands by his car in the car park outside Girne police stn, It's a gold coloured Merc, reg FF ???. He's cheaper the the girls at the driving school. Will also sort out driving licence and car transfer

Like all the other countrys in the world we "gave" back to the original owners I take it - they are all on their knees as well?

Never mind, if you stay, in a few short years you won't need a blood test and then can stop moaning about it!

went last week in at 7.00am already a large gathering of expats from 6.30

when we put our name on the list we were number 16 and 17 then it was a nightmare we waited until

12.45 before we were seen which only took 10 mins and were able to do the blood test and take the form back in afternoon but what a waste of time.

They put you outside to wait now as well.

my advice dont make a fuss just grit your teeth and go with it as they take great pleasure in making you come back and que up next day just to hand your blood test receipt in!!!

ps dont open your blood test envelope you have been warned!!!

stamps are 7.5 tl each at lefkosia and blood test in girne clinic near mercedes garage only 80 tl with tb needle as well very soft and gentle for needle phobes.

The policeman in the station said all will be changing and better for us when the new id cards are bought in

heres a glass of plonk to that

I would 2nd the recommendation for the clinic near Kombos (Muge Uceturk). The lady that takes the blood is unbelievably gentle and you really do not feel anything at all and I am a complete needle-phobe.

I can't really believe that anyone would give their passport to a total stranger to do their residency. In todays society you would think it totally illegal to do so.
