All Samsung dealers give 2 years warranty

while 'luckily'!- this one gives 1 year waranty to TVs.

I was told 2 years while i was buying.

TV had vertical lines on the screen

I was told that the panel must be replaced.

The cost is 1500-2000 TL!

New one is 2200 TL!

What would you do?

It does say this about warranty periods on the Samsung website

Screen size 37” or greater In-home 12 months

DVD/VCR Carry in/Pick up & return 12 months

Blu-ray Carry-in/Pick up & return 12 months

Home cinema Carry-in/Pick up & return 12 months

MP3 Postal return 12 months

Maybe you should contact them ?

IF you had bought it in the 'south' / UK or any other place that adheres to EU warranty practice they have to comply with a little known EU Directive ( overrides national law if not as 'generous) that give you TWO years protection.

Suggest writing to Samsung, before accepting any charges.

I'd go round to the Vestel shop next door to Digiturk and buy a new 42 inch LCD for 1199TL delivered. Bought one there about a month ago.

Buy your electrical good from Argilec ( spelling ) as they do honour warranties and have a good after sales service.

Was this problem not caused by a power surge, if so household insurance should cover the repair. I do not think any manufacturer will honour problems from power surges.

Electricity supply in the TRNC is a problem. Surges, Brown Outs etc.

Did you have voltage regulator, UPS, surge protection installed ?

Some insurers do cover for damage to electrical items.

You will find that most electrical suppliers will not cover faults caused by sub-standard electrical supply (if in fact, this is what has caused your problem)

Kibtek aren't receptive to complaints either !

I didn't contact the samsung yet because I am expecting the dealer to call and accept the responsibility.

I have a voltage regulator against the changes in the power surge.

Guess who sold it to me?

Same dealer sold the TV to me and emphasised

that if i don't have it ,the warranty won't cover the TV!

I learnt that some electrical devices are declared as broken etc while passing through the customs and NOT

CHARGED .At this point the law says to the importer that these goods can't be sold in the country becuse they

can't be given any warranty! That means if you sell it to someone it is ILLEGAL.

This point is very important.

I think my TV is possibly one of these.

So if someone is selling you an electrical gadget and not giving you any warranty just take the serial number and walk to the customs!

That is what i am going to do...

Ref message 14; So because you don`t like the price of tellies here you think it is a terrible country, think you`d be better staying in the the UK with good old Currys. There is a lot more to life than watching the box.

I bought a Sony Laptop computer from a major dealer in the USA while on a trip - by the time I got it to the UK it no longer worked (3 days) - I comtacted the dealer - they sent me to Sony - Sony sent me to the dealer - £1500 this cost - I finally claimed on the credit card - your experience is not normal bigger shops do better at avoiding warranty than smaller retailers - if anyone is put off living in the TRNC because of it then you need to rethink your reasons for moving anywhere.

The whole reason WE like TRNC is that there is no Curries, Dixons, M&S - if you want that go to the South, stay in the UK, but do not go to the TRNC - certainly do not go to the USA

According to Clause 11(5) Consumer Protection Law 40-2003, you have a minimum guarantee of two years. Throw the book at them. Print a copy of this law and draw their attention to Clause 11(5) and make threats about suing them. It may work. Here is a copy of the original law in Turkish:

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/26171843/40-2003%20Consumer%20Protection.doc

Good luck.

ismet

PS: I had a quick look at this law and you can lodge a written complaint to the District Office (Kaymakamlik) presumably in Turkish and the committe dealing with such complaints must deal with it within two months.

I think this is an important thread and should not be allowed to slip down the list too fast. I wish I had the time to translate the local Consumers Protection Act, Law no. 40-2003

This advice is realy valuable for me.

Thank you Mr İsmet.

We are all fed up with all these irresponsible and irrespectful traders.

They -somehow- always get away with it!

I am still waiting for a response from this trader before I can proceed further with any legal action.

I can translate the document .That's no problem.

I am sure people like these put people off coming to North Cyprus or make them leave the country permanently.

The best thing to do is to buy from another dealer then this guy, there is 2 other dealers of samsung in kyrenia, Bookworm you already buy from him and the last thing you should do is to wait for the dealer to contact you, there is only one way and that is to contact him and you tell him ver clearly what you want and when.

You have to show attitude.

Good luck.
