Hi,

I love this statement;

“We lived in peace in Cyprus until Turkey’s intervention."

Yeah Right! At least he used the word 'intervention' not 'invasion'. Is this a breakthrough???

As his comments were made while visiting Istanbul (curious he would go there at all) was he not using Turkish electricity while he was there?

One rule for me, another for everyone else me thinks!!

Why be surprised?

This was the man that urged the people in the south to say no to the Anan/Annan(?!) plan.

such a shame that the Greek Orthodox church does not seem topreach on love and forgiveness which are the two essentials of the Christian gospel! and that love and forgiveness is not for fellow Christians it is to all mankind (and womankind). Perhaps I should go along and have a talk with the man, but then he wouldn't listen to me a mere woman, would he, but the Bible that he uses is the same as mine, and it is well known that if any leader leads people astray their judgement will be pretty tough. (and I can quote chapter and verse if required0. It is just all so very, very sad that this childish misinterpretation goes on and people continue to suffer. at least, that is how I feel.

Yes, is there anything quite as revealing of a particularly intransigent, Greek/GC propagandist, history-denying mindset than that quote of Dubliderm's?

"“We lived in peace in Cyprus until Turkey’s intervention." !

Hard to believe the guy is actually serious.

Hi DD

I'm responding to explain - NOT - to 'defend' some of the comments

1/ The Greeks and GCs refer to Istanbul as 'Constantinople'.. the rock of their version of the Christian Faith until it fell to the Ottomans - as you may . may not know their main Cathedral was converted to a Mosque.

So.. they meet there as this is the Orthodox spirtital home.. and modern Turkey IS secualar, right ? ;)

2/ Whilst I'm SURE this guy would have been anti-Annan - he was NOT the Arch Bishop Chrysostomos who urged a No... that was no.1

THIS guy backed Makarios against the Greek Coup - putting his neck on the line...

For SURE, he must be overly selective as to the plight of many TCs living in virtual ghettos prior to July '74 and - a bit like Ireland - I DO wish so called Minister's of God would stay the (beep) out of Politics...

"I prefer to use a lamp or torch rather then illuminate Cyprus with Turkish electricity" I wonder how many of his disciples are of the same mind as him.Time to join the real world Hrisostomos the second.Wonder what the first one would have thought,

Paul.
