hello everyone, i'm an international student coming to north cyprus(EMU) this coming january, please i need valuable information as regards precise address of any kingdom hall of jehovah's witnesses(though i read in another section of the forum that it appears that there is a kingdom hall in nicosia and famagusta, yet it wasn't stated with conviction).therefore, anyone who has the address or information of the kingdom hall or any jehovah's witness in north cyprus should please post it here or email me: taiwo.ahmed84@yahoo.com

msg1,

Although I am not a Jehova's witness, I think you will find there is a kingdom hall in south Nicosia.

For all you forum members who find msg1 a huge joke, what has happened to your manners? I was

brought up to believe that everyone had the freedom and right to believe and worship whichever god

he chose and in whichever way he wanted.

I don't find it a huge joke at all! From personal experience I consider the Witnesses, like any other brainwashing, money-making sect, to be a disgrace.

Human Rights Act.

Everyone shall have the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion. This right shall include freedom to have or adopt a religion or belief of his choice, and freedom, either individually or in community with others and in public or private, to manifest his religion or belief in worship, observance, practice or teaching.

This was glossed by the UN Human Rights Committee.

Unless of course you don't believe in human rights. I find the depth of attack on this issue quite disturbing.

Msg 12. I don't know if this is a wind up or not, however I agree with you wholeheartedly. The out and out bigotry which raises its ugly head on this Forum on occasions is quite frightening and should not be tolerated.

You should know better! An eighteen year old from Lagos on his second C44 post starts spouting off/out religious sect rhetoric without even being in the TRNC, and you wonder why the 'wind-up' reply posts?!

Chris to help all you need to do is the right thing. Your offer is the right thing. It's not a 2 sided posting were you need to take a side or be dammed. Your first line was sufficient, that was the right thing. It did'nt need the last. Yes, who are you to judge!

To message 1 - why don't you wait until you get here. those living here on campus will probably have all the knowledge you need. You might even find others from your country living here who share the same beliefs. But you must recognise that this is a Muslim/secular state, and although they now accept both anglican and roman Catholics of the Christian faith, it is not so accepting of others. also of course any religious organisation has to get permission from the government to be an organisation, and that takes a long time and not everyone is given it, so it could wlel be that you will have to rely on finding friends rather than an actual Kingdom hall. Yes, there might be one in the south, but youwill have to keep crossing the border, and will your visa allow that.

as I say, far better to wait until you arrive, than to lay yourself open to comments which may hurt.

Marion,

People come on this site to get information and seek support in matters relating to Northern Cyprus. The member is simply doing a recce. Lets look at what advice and support you offer. " You might even find others from your counntry living here who share the same beliefs". Is patronising a strong point for you? From an expertise prospective and from a sound advice stance why don't you keep your distance because you simply haven't got any. You obviously want to help, but really, your in put dosen't even come close.

wow, that's a bit of a nasty comment, stubbs 1. what brought that about! Ihappen to have worked with students here, and know their needs, and where they might find answers. That is hardly patronising! I thought it was 'caring' but obviously you see things froma different perspective. so what advice would you give . Our lovely Nurse Awful has made one offer, on which you comment quite rightly, but you have made no solid suggestions. and maybe message 1 is the judge as to what comes close to answering his question.

other posters have been judgemental and condemning, so best the enquirer is spared more of the same.

But it is always interesting to have input on how one is seen. you are the first person who has ever used the word 'patronising'.

By the way do you live here???

just curious as to how much stubbs has a feel for the place. I t is one thing to visit for holidays and another to have an in depth knowledge of the place, its customs, tradtions, life style etc, which is normally gained through living there in the every day. Not always the case, of course, but often is. that's why I asked! Tamam?

Yes there is a kingdom hall in TRNC in Nicosia, I am not sure of the address although I have seen it. There are a number of witnesses here.

Very kind people the ones I have met.........feel so sorry for the Bigotry voiced on this site, as normal it just shows how tolerant some of our forum members are.

As I said earlier season’s greetings to you all.

wow, Hippo. I am just 'one of the ruins that cromwell bashed about a bit' and acquired some useful info on the way! Iam not sure that i have 'talents' - merely acquired skills and knowledge from being around a bit. Just happy to do what i can. And yes, I have done a counselling course when I was a Reader in the church, but this is nothing to do with counselling is it. It is just trying to help someone to fit into a life they are expecting here.

As to JW's , some of my best friends were and are JW's. People are people and faith is life, and life is love. so that is what this time of the year is all about - innit! Love. My only concern is that the poster may be disappointed, but then his time here as a student is all about learning about life - and I just help there are those who will help him. Pleased to hear there is a Kingdom Hall in Nicosia, but as our student is at Famagusta, that culd prove difficult for him. So hope he finds friends on campus. A truly happy Christmas to all!

I think that the negativity towards JWs comes from the door knocking method of approaching people... although I must say that I have not had any JWs knocking on my door for many years. If you have a particular faith then live that way, just don't go bothering others to try and 'convert' them.... if an individual wants to find that way of life then they will do so, and without being steered towards it.

That way we can all co-exist and the negatives are reduced, which in the long run is better for all.

Ignoring some of the earlier trash comments, getting back to the original question, there is a small JW community in Lefkosa and Famagusta. We had a recent visit from a group that live in Lapta. They were very pleasant but no, I wasn't converted and I remain a lapsed agnostic. Live and let live.

Hey i think even if there is no kingdom hall here for to worship,i think u can be the first to open one provided the laws of this land will tolerate u.Anyway, there is religious tolerance even though it is a muslim state.

a good point fidelis, but it is VERY challenging to set up an organisation here, and one has (Ibelieve) to have Turkish Cypriot partners and, and, and...............Probably not worth it for the duration of a student's life here, but of course if there are groups he can get to, then fine, and if there is one in Famagusta, that will suit him well.

There is religious tolerance, but the emphasis is on 'tolerance'. I believe that the church in kyrenia is of a charitable status as a 'friendly sociiety' - but as they say, love conquers all. Hope our new student finds a lot of it in Famagusta. There are certainly a lot of young african christians over there, so hopefully he will feel 'at home' even if he cannot follow his faith in the way he is used to doing.

Message 46 laptageezer

Through time immemorial people have been knocking on doors to spread the word of the lord (which ever one they worship) by knocking on doors, maybe you should not always read into it literally, some do it physically by hitting the doorbell or using the knocker or knocking with their knuckles to impart their message, others use differing ways to spread the word, isn't that what Christians do every year at this time, there will possibly -'nay' - probably be those who say that is a way of spreading the Christian word, the Imam belts out his message five times a day in Muslim countries (and a lot of Secular states to avoid argument), this is just another way of spreading the word.

Yes, Olive. And don't forget the politicians and their door knocking. If the message is good, share it! If it is a message that will make your life of greater value and in turn be of greater value to others, then take it on board. If not - wait for the next message!

Religion is like a penis. It's fine to have one and it's fine to be proud of it, but please don't whip it out in public and start waving it around... and PLEASE don't try to shove it down my child's throat.
