During this week, hillside was closed. Is it only for the winterperiod? I love the fish and chips over there. Somebody knows what is going wrong?

Yeh, I went there for Sunday lunch last week only to find the doors firmly shut and no one about. I agree their fish and chips are/were exceptionally good.

What a load of tosh, Hillside is still open. Have any of you tried to run a business over here during the winter period?, I think not.....

Gerry, did you not think to book a table for your lunch?....no.... no bookings.....would you pay staff to

stand and wait for customers?.....buy the joints of meat and veg?, no.................

with all the will in the world, these people are really struggling to make a hard earned living, give them a break.

Hillside IS OPEN, we have a ladies darts match there tomorrow, come and support us......Boy do we need it,

Good point,flowerfairy,

Restaurant owners cannot afford to pay staff on a whim as to whether customers will turn up or not.

We use Hillside now & again. At the moment, there is a "A" board at the front saying we are open. Not so the couple of times in the last few days we have tried.Maybe a good idea would be to let people know of opening hours in the winter. I think if owners made a little more effort to make places warmer in the present cold spell,it would encourage more customers.

Point taken about booking but there is nothing to say it has to be booked and we have NEVER had to book there before.

Becker, I think you have it correct.

No I wouldn't pay staff to stand around and wait for customers, I don't own a restaurant ! I would make it known that bookings were REQUIRED ! (They never have been here before and the sign outside DID say OPEN !

I have Sunday lunch EVERY Sunday, some restaurants require booking others DONT. Hillside is a DONT require, They hope to pick up passing trade but that is the risk they take. Their meals, when available, are very good.

Good for you Gerry.

I'll see Engin tonight, so I'll ask about his opening hours, and post it on here.

Sorted, x

Last time I was there on a sunday they had stopped the special Sunday lunches until the better weather. As we were there we had something else from the menu. I feel sorry for them, and many other small places for when the bad weather hits they lose their outdoor customers , many of whom leave the island for winter. So, I would be interested in learning what they are offering now. I am sure their fish and chips is available, but I amnot surew what the opening hours are.

I have found that if a telephone call is made to check the menu an hour or two before you intend to arrive there, if they have not got what you want they will go and get it for you. We have had excellent Cod and chips and when we once asked for a steak we were given two each and they were delicious. Similarly, if you want a "take away" they will have it ready for you at a time you nominate and, wrapped in polystyrene.

... and I've just digested mine... a takeaway, but I sat and chatted to Phil 'n Les while I was waiting...

The darts team looked to be in fine fettle - how did that go?

Good morning Keith,

The darts teams had a lovely evening, thank you.

Double trouble (home team) lost 5 - 8, I think, but we didn't shame ourselves.

Engin did mention that he is starting his Sunday roast again soon. He's having problems signing

in on here, but I'm sure he will eventually succeed.
