If so, can you let me know if they rent their own cars or do they rent on behalf of other suppliers? If their own, are they located in the same area as Hertz, Alamo etc? Finally, in the area where you collect the car, is there a manned office in operation at night (say 22.00)?

Thanks in advance.

I last used them 5 Years ago and they were on airport, with a desk in the terminal, Beware of the Very High Excess charges though.

Allo, only time we tried to rent from Easycar (in Spain not UK) they were agents for another hire company which didnt turn up so ended up renting from Hertz. This may be an isolated case (I hope so) good luck regards Barry

Thanks, I'll give them a miss I think. I usually book through Carhire3000 but you don't know who the booking is with until you have confirmed.

I think that is a wise move Jo, I too have used Easycar and boy are they expensive once you go over the limited daily mileage - unless of course they have changed their rules in the last 4 years or so.

I also had a big argument with them, I took a car back and photographed it because there was no one to check the car in and I am so glad I did because they charged my credit card for 4 new wheel trims as they said I had taken the car back minus all trims!

My photo proved otherwise as I had made sure I took it whilst also getting in their office in the background. Luckily I had worked in car hire many years ago and trust no one!

I use Easycar regularly. So far, my cars have been with Hertz and Budget. I have booked one for a few months time and when I received the confirmation, it turned out to be a company who were 'off airport', you had to get a courtesy bus. Easycar have a 24 hour cancellation policy and so I emailed them and said I wanted one actually at the airport. They replied immediately and told me to rebook and they would refund my deposit. I have to say their customer service was excellent and all sorted out within about 2 hours. Comparing them to booking directly with Hertz or Budget, there was a considerable saving.

Give it a try and as I have said, if you don't like the hire company they use, you can cancel via email and you have 24 hours to do it!!

To be fair we did get a full refund very rapidly but shouldnt have been applicable and very inconvenient ! think they should stick to easyjet !!

I go to the airport site and then check what car hire companies are available. If you go through CarHire 3000 you will pay over the odds. Take out excess waiver independent of the car company. I have just paid less than £50 for the whole year.

Thanks for all your replies. I have booked with Carhire3000 as have used them the last couple of times. Paid £126 for a Ford Ka for 10 days so interested in the price of your Fiesta Phil! Are you picking up from Stansted? My booking is for next week so don't know if that is why it is more expensive.

Interested in the independent excess waiver, can you do this online and, if so, who with please.

Jo

We used insurance4carhire.com a couple of years ago - think it was about £50 and that covered you for a year.

Hi Jane, I just had a quick look at the company you mentioned and the first thing it says is it is only available to those living in the EU. Cyprus is listed (obviously) but do you know if it covers us here? Did you tell them you live in TRNC?

Msg 14, as DVLA say TRNC is not in the EU but major banks (Nationwide) consider TRNC to be inside the EU, I wish you luck on getting a satisfactory answer! See, its not only one country that has two different views on things - lol.

I always use National as can pay on Debit Card.

At Stanstead the hired car is manned 24 hrs as Alamo,National and Budget share same office and Desk in Terminal. The return is not too far to walk as theres always trolleys left and its a straight trek along a concrete path to Terminal of about 300 yards, all hired cars are in same area. Beware though of steps getting into Terminal.

Hi Jelly

We have never hired through carhire 3000, we don't have credit cards, only debit and it sometimes a problem. Anyway put in our dates, this Sat till 14th March and it gave us a £99.00 option, we clicked on it, paid it and the voucher came back as a Fiesta with Budget Rentals. They phoned us to try and get us to take the excess insurance which we already have for 39.99 a year and I mentioned we didn't have credit cards but they said debit card is fine.

ps How is Besok enjoying our house! back in court Friday.

Hi Phil you did very well. I've got a Ka (or similar) for 10 days from Budget for £126!

Good luck for Friday.

Hi Jo - glad you booked it - I think I did check at the time and it did cover TRNC. Just for info we also booked travel insurance this year using bengo.co.uk which is specifically for expats and definitely covers TRNC and I think it was about £70 for both us for worldwide multi trips.

Oh and good luck Phil!

Hi Jane I went with a different company in the end because didn't get a response to my email from the one you used. Thanks for the tip though, paid excess twice last year which ended up costing more than the 12 months cover.
