In the last week FIVE dead Sea Turtles have been found dead on our coast line, both Green and Loggerheads.

We want to help protect these beautiful creatures from death due to mans activities, be it from fishing nets, plastic bags in the sea or fishing line.

We are holding a charity Fun Run to help raise funds to provide much needed protection on the nesting beaches during this years breeding season. Also monies will be given to Kushkor to help with bird and wildlife conservation.

We need your help to raise money, so come along to the fun day / fun run at Chateau Lambousa on Saturday 7th April.

If you have felings for these creatures, do the run or help by sponsoring someone to do the run!

For more info contact Ayse on 0533 8630425 or e mail her on pgreen59@hotmail.com

Remember, we need your support to help them survive.

The shells are beautiful but you could find yourself in deed trouble if found in possession of the shell. so be very careful as they are both protected species.

We want to protect these Beautiful creatures for future generations to appreciate.

This is so sad and unavoidable. When we went walking along Akdeniz beach a few weeks ago there were tyre tracks all along the beach and we saw one vehicle driving along there even though there are "Signs" telling people not to, of course this does not apply to the drivers who think the signs are there for the rest of us. These guys have absolutely no idea what they are doing to their own country and the beautiful wildlife here.

Instead of a "fun run" why not organise a charity "beach clean". And other similar more useful activities (raising money for clearer signs, lobbying the police to stop people disturbing them etc) - I'm sure the charities who champion the plight of the sea turtles could give advice on what sort of events would help.

chr1ch.

The Fun Run was the idea of our 20 year old son and his girlfriend, who both wanted to do something to help protect the wildlife of Cyprus, by raising much needed funds. they both enjoy running, so they decided on a Fun Run. We have spent lots of time and effort promoting the Fun Run, getting sponsorship / prizes, so at this stage we are going ahead with the Fun Run in a few weeks.

However, we have just spoken to Tricia and she has confirmed that the beach clean up will be held the first week of June at the Guzelyali and Alagadi beaches. This is an annual event for SPOT and will be well advertised nearer the time. We would obviously like to take you up on your offerof help, chocolate!

Also we would like you to come to the fun run if you can make it, to run or walk or even help out with the marshaling on the day. Lets make this a big success for Kuskor and Spot and hopefully they can hold the event every year.

On the subject of turtles, just thought I'd mention that I had the privilkege recently of swimming with turtles just off a beach in Barbados, and what a delight it was. The local people feed the turtles with small fish to attract them and give them a regular food source. This seems to work well for the local tourist industry, the tourists and the turtles themselves.

An amazing experience to be so close to these wonderful gentle creatures.

essexgirl, we too swim with the turtles here in N Cyprus, however they are very wary of man here probably because they have been persecuted in the past, we are trying educate people into understanding the importance of of these wonderful sea creatures. Maybe if people fed them here, they would respond and become accustomed to man but maybe that would be bad thing.

Turtles are competing with fishermen for fish here and often get caught in the nets and can drown.

If you leave your details I will pass them on to Robin of SPOT, the Akdeniz beach is difficult as there is so much waste which seems to get washed up continuously. It would need lots of volunteers on a very regular basis, so come folks, this is a challange for you to make the Akdeniz beach safe for the Turtles.

Who would be up for beach cleaning at Akdeniz?

I know that the group of us who walk there would be up to a clean up but we also take our dogs for a run too so if we could combine the two count us in. Depending on who is here and when it is we are a group of four - five.

Please can everyone interested in the beach clean up contact me on my e mail pgreen59@hotmail.com. We really need people to help!

We are going flat out at the moment to try to make the Fun Run a big success for SPOT and KUSKOR. If we can give them funding from the Run they will be able to use the money to deal with other issues.

Spot and Kuskor don't receive any Government funding, so it is very important to us to try to them some funding.

We invite all interested in beach cleaning to come to the fun run whether as helpers or runners / walkers. It will be a Fun day for all. We are hopeing to have local celebrities to award the prizes.

Anyone who would like to donate a prize or sponsor the run, or assist on the day would be very welcome.
