I am a British Painter & Decorator currently re-painting Turtle Bay Village. Obviously the local paint is not of a similar quality to Dulux or Sandtex but it is now a lot better than it used to be and I would not hesitate to recomend some local paints

MCityJust to let you know Trimetal and Marshall Paints are made and owned by Akzo Nobel (ICI) if I am not mistaken Dulux and Trimetal are made in the same factory and is the same paint. The paint in the North is considerably more expensive though. An example would be Dulux Weathershield approx £52 and simialr paint from Trimetal or Marshall would set you back double that amount. Marshalls have just bought out a new elasticated paint and I asked the price yesterday it was wait for it 350 tl for 15 litres. Never have I seen paint so expensive. Similar paint on the greek side approx 70 euros.

You wont stop internal and external paint flaking or coming off due to damp i all Cyprus Villas

I am from the uk and i now have perfected a system here over the last 7 yrs that Will solve up to 95% of your problems and i will give you 1 yr garrantee (if its going to come back it will show the first time it rains)

A typical 3/4 bed villa will cost £1,000 to cure all your damp problems and then you can decorate as normal same as uk.

This price can be reduced if you do all the preperation yourself (hacking off etc)

This is not a Gimmick and this is the first time i am offering my services as i Know how depressing and soul destroying having to repeatedly repaint the bad areas every year for it all to blow flake off again !

So any of you clever Wags out there dont ask me how i do it, i have proof it works and the process remains with me

On the south side there is a new-ish Dulux Paint Centre in Paralimni, opposite to Lidl supermarket.

Msg 12

Good God Paul do you read every message.

For all interested, and no I do not represent Genc in any way.

The paint that we are using is Dufa, Silosil Silikonlu Boya. We are applying 2 coats of this direct but you can get a primer for this and apply 1 coat over it.The primer is called Silikonlu Ortucu Astar.

If you have any cracks you can also get an exterior putty called Akrilik Dis Cephe Macunu, apply either by filler blade or brush it on.

All above are manufactured by Dufa and available at Genc DIY.

Sorry but I do not know the prices as we buy in bulk.

Any other info required just ask and I will reply.

Hei bimbo,

yes, you can use the Akrilik macunu for inside.I have done my house 3 years ago and it is all perfect since then. You can get these German made materials from Genc Yapi in Karaoglanoglu.

You need Exterior Primer called Silikonlu Astar. Apply one or two coats. For cracks you can use interior or exterior putty called Dis Cephe Macunu.

After applying rub it down and paint over twice.

That is the best way to avoid the walls getting wet.

Good luck.

Silikonlu Astar is a transparent primer to seal the cracks. It is also very good to seal the balconies and terraces and also for tiles around the house. Genc Yapi has the best material produced in Germany.

Silikonlu Aster is not a transparent primer for sealing cracks, it is a primer for first coating exterior walls. There is a product from Dufa called Stonex which is a water based Silan-Siloxane mixture which is transparent and seals tiles etc. But there is a product by, I think Weber, which is a lot cheaper and works just as well. I will find out the name of the product for you tomorrow and will post it on here.

Hello all house owners,

it is not a secret how to paint a house. My advice is free.

I don΄t want to argue with message 20. I am not talking from 1st paint sealing primer.

I am talking about crack sealing primer. For those who want to paint their house my advice is:

First wash down all the sand and dust from walls.

After drying brush the cracks with transparent crack sealing primer. It will penetrate in cracks

and avoid the cracks to get bigger.

Next step, use exterior putty to close the cracks.

After drying rub it down to make it straight.

Then seal it with normal primer.

Now you are ready to paint.

To make the work easier you can also mix the normal primer in the first coat paint. Doesn`t matter which colour of paint.

Good luck.

Thinking Caps on people..

Why do you suppose the cracks appear in the first place? is it..

a. Poor quality Paint.

b. paint improperly applied.

c. Moisture ingression .

d. Movement , Expansion/Contraction of the Sub-surface..due to lack of movement joints incorporated in the build?

The alternative to Dufa Stonex for sealing tiles etc is called Ceresit manufactured by Henkel. I think you can get this from Marshalls.

Happy DIYing

Just a small Addendum, Cerecit (Silicone based Sealant) only works on "micro porous" surfaces. And needs to be applied Annually ..

Message 28 not sure I agree with you entirely MartinD41. Ceresit by Henkel have a number of different products.

I bought a tube of Ceresit FT101 as a trial the year before last and used it to fill some cracks to see how it lasted. 2 years on the Ceresit filled joints hadn't moved. Granted they are just what I would term expansion cracks, but its as good as the day I applied it. Cersit FT101 IS NOT sillicone based and can be overpainted and is UV resistant, can also be applied in damp conditions.

When I get time (as I don't live in TRNC) I'll be using this to fill all the cracks in my property prior to repainting.

• All material • All weather • Excellent adhesion even in the wet • Resistant to UV and sunlight • Paintable

• No shrinkage during curing
