there can be no direct flights until there is an airline registered in North Cyprus. At the moment there isn't one.

The-Wicks posted on another thread that CTA will be going to the English high court next month to apply for direct flights.



I have tried to find out a bit more information on this even looking at the forthcoming High Court appliacations on the net, however you can only get information for Mondays appearances.



Does anyone know anything further on this application by CTA?

Bill it goes hand in hand with, I think they are called Cyprus direct, applying for a licence to commence direct flights for winter 2009 spring 2010, they are going to work along side CTA. I think Tom from flightholiday would know more.

i have been arguing this with musin on the other thread.

my point is how can anyone take the uk gov to court, in the uk?

the old boys club will work its magic and the trnc will loose.

not that i want to see that, but by having friends who are baristers in the uk, i understand how the system works.

a bit like the free masons, which they are all part off.

it is always a no win situation.

Seriously, my opinion is Never.

This debate has been going on for donkey's years. When we started visiting, the reason given for no tourists was "cannot fly direct".

19 years later, still no tourists, still no direct flights. There was a period, maybe mid-90's when the tourists did start coming, but then the over-building started and I think this, and steeply rising prices, put tourists off coming back.

It must happen, why...... well they say the talks must have a solution by the end of the year if the outcome is reunification then the airport is open for business ....simple direct flights

Although I said never earlier, of course this doesn't exactly mean there will be NO direct flights.



When CTA can fill a plane from the UK to Ercan then they fly DIRECT. All they do is circle over the Turkish Airport and ask for clearance to continue. They've done it before and, no doubt, will do it again.



But as long as flights are not full and they need revenue, then they will have to offer flights to Turkey to subsidise those who want to travel direct. Unless of course you wish to fly on half, or less, full planes and pay £700 upwards for your return tickets. If this is what you want then petition CTA to do it. No doubt they will oblige. But I wonder how many would concur with your petition for such a thing to happen?!
