G'day all... Late news last night ... the government has agreed to underwrite the toxic debt uncovered by Lloyd's bank since their disastrous take over of HBOS. Two hundred and fifty billion pounds. Is Flash Gordon is at it again... releasing information hopefully buried so that no one notices ...or was two-o-clock in the morning just chance? You Lloyds Bank customers must be seething at what has happened since this ill advised takeover, encouraged by Flash G even though it was against the monoploy commision rules. Why was this info not discovered, released or checked into before hand? Now we know. As a HBOS client, not exactly thrilled myself , but cannot understand how a well run and well capitalised bank like Lloyds has been dragged into the whole toxic mess... very sad :-( Regards Joseph

I am posting this because like you, I am concerned about the gross negligence of bankers and politicians. Why is no-one else posting on this thread? Washerman

Washerman - I guess we are all disgusted by the stunts being pulled. But maybe people know they don't stand a chance of changing anything? Not even an election will make a difference!

Hi Washaman and kaiser... Remember Nick Leesom ... he gambled away millions on futures and currencies ,bankrupted a bank (can't remember the bank) and did a runner abroad. They went after him, finally arrested him in the far east' prosecuted him in a court of law ... and he was gaoled? Why are these current chairman and ceo's not being prosecuted... Surely their dereliction of duty vis a vis gambling on US mortgage debt is no less fraudulent? Isn't this the only way to get the message across? I also think they should be stripped of knighthoods etc and made to pay back any monies stashed away over and above salary etc such as huge golden handshakes and pension pots. But then... that's just me Regards Joseph

Joseph, unfortunately, the top brass are not on the level, they are on the square and herein lies the problem. Don't get me wrong, there are good and bad in all walks of life but some obligations weigh over others. Knighthoods devalue when they are bestowed on the likes of people like this. Never mind, today's news is tomorrow night's fish supper Washerman

Just to correct you joseph, Nick Leeson did his dealing I believe with Barings Bank if I am not mistaken not sure of spelling, and it was in Singapore, I was in Singapore when the news broke, so he did not do a runner and he was jailed in Singapore and eventually released when he was discovered to have cancer.

Quarmby... apologies, you are spot on Can you recall if any one else was so prosecuted or was he doing all this off the radar, ie was he the fall guy or acting alone and in secret and only found out by actuaries etc? Was there ever a public enquirey and where any shareholders and or funds within pensions ever re-imbursed/compensated? Refards Joseph

Qurmbly, The thief desperately tried to escape and the police finally caught up with him somewhere in Europe... Ah, what a lucky guy, he also fully recovered from cancer and looks like he found a new hobby as... CEO in Irish football club.

I am sure many of these FC funs have lost some money due to the new trading frauds. I wonder if they are able to connect and see the similarities.

the upper class will always look after themselves, so no surprise in letting the bank bosses off with just a telling off in parliament, they are probably all giving bank handers to the politicians anyway. Bring on the election but who are we going to vote for when it does arrive???

Now come on Snakes be fair... main residence ... the poor old thing says she only lives in one room... had it been the whole house it might have been a lot more than £150k Wasn't that long ago her mate Harman ... sacked along with Mandelson but both back and roaring to go... was being investigated over a few hundred grand borrowed free from an Italian billionaire for a mortgage... she said her husband borrowed it and she didn't know anything about it.. Do you think she knew something about the mortgage market we didn't as subsequent events over toxic mortgage debt has proved Regards Joseph
