These are the fatilities by European countries in Afganistan.

Why is it that Great Britian bears the greatest cost both in lives and financial contributions. The benifits (arguable) are reaped by all european countries, why is it that it always Great Britain gets the pain.

If the European countries both new and old are real members of the club then lets see a little more involvement from them.

To be fair it looks like Denmark has a greater loss of life relative to total population than the UK.

UK has one of the largest contigents in Afghanistan, after the US and more importantly are concentrated by far in the most violatile areas of Afghanistan. Furthermore, most of the europeans (ISAF) do the stability operations whilst the Americans do counter-insurgency (CT). However, the Brits also try to get involved in CT operations unlike the other europeans. One other factor, I believe (and this a personal opinion), is that the Brits attract extra attention of the Afghans because of their past historical record in Afghanistan I believe the British causlties would have been far higherthan what it is today had it not been the long and hard experience of the British forces in past insurgencies.

Perhaps if they got rid of the paper thin Landrovers and gave the ladfs some prope protection our casualties would be less.

Coachie I agree 100% with you, my Son served in Afghan last year, he was told a couple of weeks ago his friend was killed in a roadside bomb only days before, my heart goes out to all relatives and friends of fallen loved ones and comrades, I know it is on the cards for my lad to go back there again in the near future and I dread it. But he has joined up and must do his duty, it is unfair though that British and American troops seem to be the only ones commited to the job.

COACHIE,msg 7. I was up on the Catterick garrison last week, with my lad (LCP, REME mechanic) just to see him off.He flew out to Canada for three months on tank maneuvers last Monday.

The point i am making is he pointed to scores of old trucks at Catterick, they looked ancient,However he said he had been testing a brand new heavily armoured vehicle,he also said he drove it practically submerged.Explained the vehicle is awesome.Lets hope this type gets deployed.

Very best wishes to you.REGARDS PETE

we have always been to cost conscious when it comes to the right equipment for our troops.Too much spent on advanced technology weapons for he air forc and navy when it more should be spenton the guys on the ground who actually doing the fighting.Compare ourtroop transports and personel protection equipment to the other nations out there adn we do not fare very well at all. They are now only bringing out better gear after The failings in Iraq.Bit like closing the gate after the horse has bolted.Lets hope it gets there PDQ for ourlads sakes..

Brits like being there. We have never been backward in stepping forward and getting in a scrap. If there isn't one going, we make one of our own. We don't lose many of the wars that we get in and that really hacks most other Europeans off. Good enough reason on its own!

My son has done a tour in Musa Qala, Helmand Prov., and can't wait to go back for a few more Taliban scalps.
