Why bother to ban members if they are allowed to just sign up under a new name and carry on from where they left off ? If this is going to be allowed to happen then surely it is better to just not ban them in the first place ? Personaly I would not have banned Macha, but this is not my site. If you are going to do it then do it properly or not at all. Banning them and have them come back under a new name is worse than not banning them at all imo. Just my 2pence worth.

Hi Erolz Not been on for a few days so must have missed all the excitement When and why was Macha banned, have not seen any reference to such? Like you I personally do not think any member should be banned just because we/they disagree in debate. If so... I think it only right that an explanation should be given openly and fairly so all members are aware of the reason. Otherwise... as you rightly suggest the temptation to simply come back on under a new alias rather undermines the point and leads to suspicion. I have noticed two other posters (names) being accused this way and it just leads to confusion at best and distrust at worse. So what happened? Regards Joseph

May I point out rule 4 4. Respect The Forum Admins Forum admins have the final word. If you have a problem or a complaint, email Izzet off board. Do not post it on the board. Forum admins do not need to explain their actions. Do not complain about this.

Andyp msg 3 I am sorry if I breached a rule. I am not questioning the Admins decisions or asking them to explain them. I was inviting a discussion about the sense of banning people only to have them return the next day under a new name. However if such a discussion is considered against the rules then so be it.

Re MSG 4 I do not make the rules. I just make sure users abide by them (when I am on the forum). Unlike many, I have a life outside of Cyprus44.

Cylad msg 10 This thread was not intended (by me at least) to be about the rights and wrongs of forum censorship or the actions of admins on it. At the end of the day this forum is not a state, it is a privately owned 'space' in which the owner can do as he pleases. What my question was about was the practicalities and sense of the system the owner chooses to use in regard to banning members. In my view he has every right to ban given people on his forum should he want to, just as the owner of a cafe or pub has such a right. My question is does it make any sense to do so, if such bans have no material effect other than to confuse people ?

Erolz, I agee What is the point of banning someone then allowing them back on within minutes this just undermines the rules and makes a mockery of the site if I were a moderator I would feel pretty let down and would have to question why this happens.

Totally agree Trevor, we all know who these people are so I would have thought it would be easy to make the ban stick, it doesn't usually seem to be diffficult.

AndyP - message 3 - if you mean what you say, your attitude explains a lot about this board. Disgraceful!

Erolz, I agree 100% with your sentiment. It is even crazier than banning, there are cases where an admin member joins in a thread and thinks it OK, another joins and immediatley closes the thread. I know on other forums the admins "get together" on line to discuss policy etc so they all sing from the same "hymn sheet". I have only seen sensible things from Andy P in the past but msg 3 just about sums up what is happening to the forum. Yes, Izzet has written the rules but until all of admin act as a team there is always going to be conflict with members who like to have a more advanced debate or discussion. As for banning people, nice to see Pt Pike/mach etc back on board under new banner. Need I say more!!!!!

We try our best to prevent banned members from rejoining under a different name. We have implemented a set of new techniques a few weeks ago so we are quite good at detecting multiple member logins. Izzet

cylad/macha/pike, Re message 15 You really do have a problem with people of a more mature age having an opinion don't you, we can;t all be smart arsed wet behind the ears young know it alls. We may not know all the history of Cyprus but we do know about respect for our olders and betters. You may change your name as often as you like but your arrogance still identifies you quite clearly in my opinion.
