Well Esentepe has only had about 7 hours of rain for the whole of the winter so far so it's probably true Berty. I'd make sure I had plenty of cold water storage depots in the garden. Karen

Someone on this site alluded that a pipe line from Turkey to bring water from Turkey who have a plentiful supply might be on the cards - was it just pie in the sky? I am sure if it is feasible - then EU grants would be available to introduce one. Turkey would genearate some income. The cypriots in the south would welcome one too I am sure - something that could be used as sweetner in any settlement.

There maybe a shortage and Girne council are restricting water hours to parts of the town, but it doesn't stop the council watering the Roundabouts (at 2 tons a time, twice a week) AND the Football Grounds opposite the Pia Belle for hours at a time using several tons every few minutes.

Hi Paul the TRNC have got a grant from the EU for approx 270 mill euros for infrastructure and are releasing 3.5 mill for research to improve the water situation. There has been talk for many years of a pipeline (Suspended under the sea) from Turkey. Some years ago they towed large plastic containers from Turkey but after 1 trip (Storms at sea), gave up. Trouble is any rain there is runs off the mountains into the med with very little being retained in underground aquifiers.

Does anyone out there know what sort of impact on the main water supplies private wells are having. I imagine somewhere along the lines it must do as it restricts the amount of water running down the hills/mountains and into a reservoir and as the water shortage continues more and more people are digging down to find water.

Cant the powers that be see what the financial implications will be if they dont sort it out.Tourism and industry would be decimated. They are already talking about job cuts in the hotel industry.Once people get wind of how serious the situation is they will stop booking their holidays, Regards, Paul.

By the way the TRNC researched the water problem a few years ago and now spending more money 3.5 mill euro on same. The R.O.C water reserves are at 10% (Critical)
