Hi my husband and I recently booked a day boat trip from Kyrenia harbour with our 3 children. We booked to go out on the 'Princess' on Friday 28th August as we were due home on the 31st.

We set out from the mooring , no problem plenty of space for everyone. We headed west as we expected and were able to see how the big casino/hotel complexes on the coast have grown since our last vist in 2007. We dropped anchor in Escape Bay and as soon as it was safe everyone was over board to enjoy the fun. My 3 went in and had a great time, so what do you do when everyone is having a good time?....join them! My husband dived in but me being me went down the ladders and started to swim over to the rest of the family , this is where it got scary, Very scary infact I have never been so frightened in my life.

I lost my breath and started to breath as if having an 'asthma attack'. I got out of the water with the help of my husband and another swimmer....

and was soon struggling for breath. I was coughing up blood and needed help fast. The crew of the 'Princess' acted swiftly to help my husband try and get me comfortable, they arranged to get me off the boat to Escape Beach to await transport to Kyrenia Hospital. Once at the hospital it was becoming clear I was in BIG trouble. I had drips put in both arms, oxygen and anything else they could do to stabilise me...to no avail. I remember hearing that I was to be taken to Nicosia as they didn't have the required facilities at Kyrenia Hospital. I was to require the Intensive Care Unit. Ambulance, blue light, more drips, oxygen, unconciousness for a while.

I was in the ICU for about 28 hours...I must thank all the staff for looking after me!

Meanwhile back on the 'Princess' the crew and some English ladies 'kept an eye on the children'.From all accounts, and the photos, they had a fantastic day without Mum & Dad !!

They were taken back to our house to be met by the rest of the family. My husband finally got home from the hospital around 4pm on Friday not knowing if we were all going home together on Monday or not.

I was finally let out of hospital late on Saturday afternoon.

Another thank you to Seref of Denizkizi Taxi. This driver brought my husband to Nicosia from Kyrenia to collect me then drove all the way back to our Kyrenia house to get me there safe and sound.

We had a memorable holiday this year! The bush fire helicopter and the earthquake seem to have paled into insignificance. I am well,I am breathing, I am alive my children are safe, as for my hubby...he may take longer to recover from the shock of seeing me struggling for breath....as for the shock of the hospital bill, well his wallet is in ICU now. Thank You All xxxxx Sal

That sounds really scary, did you manage to get home on the 31st? Scary enough when you take ill in another country, this happened to me 2 years ago in Turkey but the care was second to none, within 1 hour of admission I was give x rays, a scan, blood tests and the results in 1/2 hr I had gallstones, I would have had to wait at least 6 months in the UK for appointments at the hospital, luckily because I had the x-rays and results of all the tests to take home with me I got to have my operation in the UK within 3 months.

Have you recovered now?

Thank you everyone for your kind thoughts...I am much better than I was. Have had more X-rays,blood tests etc and it appears I have had a chest infection. It just goes to show how we take our health for granted.

Have departed this boat and one or two others, being dad and worried for the kids, getting older and attempting not to show the fear.

My lad and younger daughter would like to depart from higher and higher.

Looking back on the split second you jump and tremble, inwardly shout and scream.

Glad your ok.

Will you have another go ?

We are the rest of the family on holiday with Bounty. It was certainly a very worrying time. The first we knew about it was when the 3 children arrived back at the house on their own. They talked non stop about how nice everyone on board was to them, especially the crew. In fact the next day when we went to let them know what had happened they even offered to take us to Nicosia hospital to visit Sal or pick her up. What more can you ask. We have had a few visits to Kyrenia hospital over the years and always had first class attention and not had the long wait to be seen like here. Its great to see how in situations like that people all pull together (would it happen here!!)
