Liz, (ask Nurseawful) I am in the UK but she knows how I feel about Max and why but over the last few days I would have been where you are, Sorry so sad that yet another animal is in dire straights. Will find a way through Chris to send a contribution to help with Max. Please as he fills out and comes healthy put more photos on the Forum.

I love animals have 3 rescues myself, but if there is a chance she can be put down humanely, let it be. There are too many dogs and cats here.

Don't get angry when you've finished reading this, please.

1: The situation re: dogs will not improve.

(2: Worst scenario: Lilly becomes an unofficial KAR dependance.)

3: KAR cannot take in more dogs (cats?).

4: The KAR policy doesn't seem to be to put down dogs after a certain time. (If this is the case: I disagree).

5: I don't know any vet here wanting to put down a "healthy" dog. (Physically healthy, yeas, but what about the circumstances in which they have to live?).

6: Daisy Dukes and her helpers do a fine job (the fostering plan, read elsewhere on this board), but what if a fostered dog doesn't find a home after 2, 3, 6 months?

7: My idea about a (sad) solution: let's talk to the TRNC Government* and ask for cooperation. If nobody wants to do it: maybe vets in the quarantine center in Lefkosha can put dogs to sleep.

* I do understand that the "dog problem" is not a TRNC priority - we cannot blame the TRNC officials.

If I can find some expats and preferably one or two Cypriot Turks, I'm prepared to form a small committee and try to convince the TRNC government to help find a (sad) solution.

Slightly off-thread:

An importer friend has 50 cans of 1250g Otto beef flavoured dog food he can't sell. The labels have been water damaged making them unfit for sale to shops etc.

These cans normaly(?) sell for 3.5TL and he will accept 1.75TL a can to get rid of them.

Buyer collects.

Surely if your friend can't sell them he should give them away to someone who can collect or to KAR or Lilli.

He is a business man - the cans are not out of date.

This isn't about his generosity, or lack of it. It's about the generosity of someone buying this dog food and donating it to KAR. And before you ask, I have 2 rescue dogs of my own. Maybe someone who can't take a dog in, for whatever reason, but wants to help might like to do their bit....

DC,

No offence (offense is the USA spelling of my language ) taken.

The dogs will get their free lunch, if someone buys this dog food for them. You rightly said we are only talking about 85TL here - about what many people will spend on a night out for 2. Can't someone go without and let the dogs eat instead?

Firstly I just want to say what a fantastic job all of you do trying to help these poor animals but I also have to say that it is very very unfair of this "gentleman" in Bellapais to put the onus on Lilli for trying to re-home this poor dog. What is he going to do after the 5 days are up?

I know halffull it gets so hard. The last one has really upset me. He is so sad. Today I made the mistake of letting him run off the lead and threw a stick. He was terrifed.I guess he was not only starved but badly beaten. I am determined to get him fit and well and smiling xx For this reason I cant take any more

Hi everon Not really just someone who cares. Just got back in from feeding and walking MAX. then had another call from this man to see if can help. He is bringing a photo in tommorow so I will call Keith to post it and see what we can do. Everon Im so disturbed about the state of max and the way he just appeared that I need to concetrate on him. I made more progress tonight with him. Told him to hold his head high and he is now taking notice. He keeps putting his leg over my arm so as not to leave him. I am determined to get that boy so well. He has cost me a fortune this week with varoius medications etc but hey its a life saved. He will not be back on the streets thank you xxxx anyway

Hi again Liz. I am so pleased that Max is making progress (slowly, but surely). It did upset me that he seemed disturbed at the appearance of a stick. He will need a lot of TLC in the future. I will be sure to come along and either make a contribution or bring you some food or whatever you need. Would you like me to try and get a couple more of the 'soft leads'? Anything we can do. By the way, do you think that animals have an instinct?

A friend of mine, many years ago, took on a collie which was rescued (by a member of the public) from a travellers camp. On the first visit to the vet, the poor animal had dozens of breaks and fractures which had not been properly treated and had not healed correctly. It took her months and months of patience to gain the poor dog's trust, but it paid off and dear old Meggie passed away a year or so ago from old age. You keep up the good work. When I win the lottery we'll be OK!!

With much love to you both

Hiya Jeaanie I really do beleive that they do have an instinct. The way he was just there in a split second was just so amazing. Nobody waked by me and a dog didnt walk past me but I turned around and there he was slumped like he was dead. He is on the mend but very fearful even of a sweeping brush. We are making progress but i am finding it so hard. he loves guido but turns to me for reassurance. I hAve him on Imodium now as everything goes through him/ Iwilll win > He loves me and thats what matters now at this stage . We both love him and with the strenght of both of s in one week we have got him on his legs now running. Last two days we changed his diet to chicken and rice or lamb. He is better fed than me but his need is greater than mine. Jeannie you know me I will change him. He is going nowhere only to a good home when he isready. He may be physologially damaged but we will get him over his fears. love to you both also xxxxxxx
