With the New Zealand flag dangling from the balcony, our favourite 'Kiwi Bazooka Toting Bullswool Spinner' held his birthday bash yesterday arvo - thoroughly enjoyed by all invitees and possibly a coupla three gatecrashers, too!

Richard's good looks are only marginally exceeded by his culinary abilities, which were reflected in the sumptious spread, voraciously devoured by the drooling guests!

Music wise: Maori folk and Italian opera might not be every Britisher's cup of Bovril - but, after all, 'Variety is the spice of life!', as was Richard's choice 'Kiwi Smorgasbord'!

*Kia ora, Richard! - (*Good health [Maori].)

They didn't, newlad from 'ull! - But the result of the Wales match just shows how Kiwi footy is 'going down the gurgler'!

I was in Hull in about 1980, and went to the Rugby League Cup Final at the Boulevard, when Hull met Hull - that was a cracker!

My other favourite memory was going to Hull Fair, which should be about now - wow, those fish 'n chips 'n mushy peas from Carvers must be the best on the planet!

Dear Mr Richard 'Brinsley'

I would first like to wish you a belated very happy birthday.

To say I am hurt not to have received an invitation to your birthday bash would be a huge understatement. I am beside myself. Whilst I appreciate that I am currently in the UK and could not have possibly attended, you must be aware of the saying "It would have been nice to have been asked".

I trust you had an enjoyable time?

Regards.

Not too sure how to respond to your post but if I take it in a positive way, thank you. Look up Richard Brinsley Sheridan, the Irish play write to whom I'm related too. Though no excuses for my appalling behaviour!

Newlad/Msg 11: Too right - you're right!

So, that's left me wondering what the 'big one' I watched at 'The Boulevard' on Holderness Road was?

Could it have been Hull KR v St. Helens - maybe the semi final?

I think you had a couple of Kiwis playing for HKR at the time...

Richard/Msg 8: 'Erudite' - you reckon? - At your bash, I should thank Mr. Fosters & Mr. Carlsberg for any intellectual inspiration I might have displayed!

Bijou likes you, too - you flatterer, you!

If I was you, you would be correcting me on my spelling of playwrite (playwright, incidentally) but as its your birthday I'll just say Happy Birthday Richard! ......

Many happy returns!

msg 19: Ken, I think the description of you was "interesting", though when you turned up with the enchanting Bijou on your arm, intriguing, in it's best sense, may be more apt.

Tony

Newlad - it must have been Craven Park, then - I 'can't do right for doing wrong' when it comes to reminiscing about 'ull, can I?!!!

Yeah, no, yeah, no, yeah - it was definitely Holderness Road, so must have been Hull - not HKR - no worries - good memories, though, eh!!!

Eh, Tony - you're all just lucky I didn't bring my guitar and start the Maori music - which then generally degenerates into a few flawed renditions of Kevin 'Bloody' Wilson's ribald songs!

Newlad - I'm sure you'll tell me!

Maybe we can share a coupla three beers next time you're in town (Girne) and have a yarn about the East Riding - or do you prefer 'Humberside'?

But if ya gonna argue about it, we'll call the whole thing off!
