We flew with Pegasus for the first time this year, always having used KTHY before, and to be honest we felt Pegasus were better anyway.

As mentioned earlier on the “CTA Flights Operating” thread flightholiday Are happy to offer flights to Ercan from Stansted (return)

A sample of the price should be GBP 244.00 subject to availability.

05/07/2010 Stansted - Ercan Airport - 12:50 / 20:30

12/07/2010 Ercan Airport - Stansted - 08:15 / 12:10 (This was available to book at 16.00 28th June.)

Please note that the main terms and conditions that will apply are those of Green Island. Neither the airline nor of IAH conditions will take precedence over those of the operator. By the way at IAH/flightholiday we do have a small booking fee which is per booking (not per seat).

This is based on the IAH / Green Island accord which is how we are able to help out customers (especially while CTA are having troubles)

Today just in from the FCO:

On 25 June 2010 Cyprus Turkish Airlines (CTA) joined forces with AtlasJet. Passengers holding CTA tickets should seek advice in the first instance, from their travel agent or tour operator or directly with Atlas Jet Airlines. A local ‘help line’ number is available: (+90 392) 22 83666 ext 300 or 22 87647. Alternatively information is available on the Atlasjet website at: http://cmss.atlasjet.com/en/faq under the regulation for passengers holding KTHY tickets tab.

The British Foreign and Commonwealth office are not really much more up to date than the rest of us but it is "official" as at 29th June 13.59 UK time (it might well change again before the day is out).

I have just been chatting with our consolidator for Turkish Airlines and Sarah said.

"One agency had to call the police yesterday for assistance can you believe it. Poor CTA employees they have their hands tied they've lost there jobs and cant change passengers, its nice of them to have turned up to the office the try and help people."

It seems that clients are getting irate with the staff in travel offices which is not on. This is not their fault and many of these people are NOT their clients!

By the way I have heard that Atlas are suffering controlled chaos as they have not yet received information from KTHY. (Without that information they can't plan short or long term nor even risk getting too many slots etc.)

Re CTA / CyprusTurkish Airlines

I have just talked with AtlasJet the staff are working sometimes 18 hours a day to try to keep a hold of the situation at present. They are still suffering chaos. This may be as they seemingly have not yet received passenger details from KTHY so they can do little forward forecasting of flights.

Please be as patient as you can as the staff in all travel offices (AtlasJet, travel agents etc.) are in a different sense just as in frustrated the dark as you are as their clients.

Pegasus have got a good enough reputation and service, that if they keep their prices competitive and increase the number of flights they operate from Stansted, and add some more from Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester, etc then they can easily fill the gap left by CTA and nobody will ever look back..

Pegasus are the ones to watch here. Come on Pegasus, bring on more flights. Who needs newCTA/Atlas, keep up the good work.

After seeing a person in Manchester Airport and having been given the personal number of the Air Travel Assistant we were informed that there were no guarantees that we would be flying to Cyprus as Atlasjet had to honour their own passengers first and then those of CTA. His advice was to cancel our tickets and get a refund if possible - you have to check with ATOL first who will confirm that they can't do anything and then go through a Dispute Claim with your card company. There is a definite flight confirmed to go to Cyprus on the 17th under Atlasjet which can be booked. Any advice on rebooking Atlasjet in the present circumstances would be appreciated.

Tulip are only 4 doors down from First Club Holidays on Green Lanes. Having two that close to each other may have encouraged some sort of competition, lowering the £15 "admin fee".

Having only 4 to deal with the many 1000s of bookings and giving each a nice little monopoly in their own area, must be a welcome "earner"..

On entry to Turkey, each foreigner pays a £10 visa few... TRNC should introduce this now, fleece people even more. £10 for entry, £100 for exit!

Re tulip the guy in there did not want to know a reactive of mine went in there and he made out didn't know anything and that they should wait and go back to where they got there tickets. Not the first time I have heard that the owner is very rude and arrogant to his customers. They ended up at first club who were a pleasure to deal with.

we went to firstclub on wednesday 7th july and paid to have 8 tickets transfered. were told we would have confirmation in 48 hours but have not heard a thing. The number is constantly engaged and when it does answer they hang up immediatly. I appreciate this chaos is not their fault, but i'm feeling like i have thrown good money after bad.

Has anyone actaully had their tickets transfered sucessfully?

LisaF - I took 5 tickets to firstclub on Wednesday too - haven't heard back from them but I did pop in on Friday afternoon and rep said they had sent information to AtlasJet on 8 July - so that's only 2 working days....am trying to be calm about it all. She also said that they would refund our £100 arrangement fee if nothing was sorted out. I'd just like to know what they can offer us while I've still got time to contact the credit card company and make alternative arrangements if we can!

We should be flying out on 29 July.....friend of mine was due to go out on 15 July - they offered 10 July swap and confirmed her return of 31 August and she's gone!

keithr. I don't think you will get a direct bus service from Antalya to Gocek but will have to go the Dalaman and get another bus from there to destination.

LisaF & London mum

We used First Club and they came through within 48 hours but dont bother trying to waste time ringing them it looks like the 48 hour turnaround is not hapening because everthing goes to Atlasjet who are also being swamped from all sides.

They are in a mess and have a shop full of customers and they have a whole load of people giving them constant grief.

If you need updates you will have to go down there and give them another push.

Just spoke to First Club - they don't seem to have done anything with our tickets and she said it was unlikely we would get anything before 6 August (booked CTA 29 July) - I don't know what to do......it's not looking good...how will I tell my children 6 and 3 that they won't be seeing their paternal grandparents this year :o(

Further to our post No 14. We decided to look into purchasing tickets through greenislandholidays.com whom we had never heard of before (until this Forum) and can't vouch for until the end of our holiday in August - although very accommodating and much cheaper than KTHY or whatever people choose to call them. They are worth a call "Londonmum" as they are based near the ATOL offices in London and are IATA, ATOL and ABTA accredited. We did it for the sake of our two children also.

With KTHY we have a dispute claim going through with our card services and hope that we will be fruitful in our endeavours after having sent many e-mails to Atlasjet via their e-ticketing service, ATOL and anyone else we could get involved with accurate news developments from - hopefully we will be successful as we hope everyone else will be.

Good luck to all.

Msg 28 We can of course help with new tickets at flightholiday (and would have helped you too).

I would suggest trying for Xmas sooner, not later.

There are a lot of other people who do not access Cyprus44 who also have lost their flights on KTHY and there seemingly are not enough seats currently available

At a rough calculation over the next 10 weeks at least 30,000 return seats will not be supplied by ATLASJET as hard as they might try to cover the CTA problem. As the information coming out is still not clear even the CAA seems to be stymied as to what to say.

I have said it before, please try to be nice to the people who are trying to help you as many of them (travel agents, airline staff etc) are in no better a position than you are, having also no more information and some far worse cant be sure of their own futures.

For once we are blowing our own trumpet.

At IAH Ltd (www.flightholiday.co.uk ) we have tried to help quite a few people who are not our own customers during the CTA problem.

We have tried to help on Cyprus 44 (seemingly according to some we do not know our own business; so I am not so inclined to try to help others as hard as I usually do with the KTHY problem – sorry goodwill can wear out).

Many TO’s & CTA Agents will not finish sorting out this problem for weeks to come.

Of course we had our own clients both ATOL bonded and supplied as a ticket provider who had problems and who needed our help.

Tonight as well as our normal business we have finally got our last client positioned with ATLAS (with no charges to our clients!) and as happy as they can be considering everything!!! So just this once IAH will blow our own horn & now I can try to work normal hours & days rather than just about the lot.

There are a lot of people who can't get to Turkey & Cyprus who have our thoughts.

News in today - from one of the travel press - I hope it does not affect flights in July or August as with CTA, Unite's action on BA and the ash cloud this would truly cap it all!

"Workers at six UK airports are being balloted for strike action by the Unite union. Unite is to ballot more than 6,000 members based at BAA airports, including Heathrow, in a dispute over pay. It has accused BAA of offering a "paltry" pay offer for 2010 after a pay freeze in 2009."

From one of the travel press today - An agency owned by Goldtrail Holidays has today failed.

, with the bulk of its business being selling the operator’s holidays.

Quickstep was based in New Malden and also operated under the trading name of Quickstep Travel.

All retail claims following the failure of Quickstep will be handled by CEGA, Abta’s claims handling partner.

Msg 36 - This is the 8th time that someone new to the board has tried to promote this web site on various threads. When I looked; you get charges to use their system and most of the hints that you can see you would know already being the canny & sensible people that you are on Cyprus44.

Flights with Pegasus through SAW - the following I have been informed applies unless your flight is one where you stay on board the aircraft (usually to or from Ercan in North Cyprus).

Sabiha Gokcen (SAW) has only one NEW terminal serving both International and domestic. Passengers in transit arrive International, collect visa if required to enter Turkey, through passport control into baggage reclaim.

If baggage is through-checked proceed into arrivals hall. If your hold baggage is not checked through to your final destination you need to collect it before proceeding. To the right there is an escalator to the departure level one floor up. Do not leave building as you will then need to re-enter and go through security checks.

If passengers have onward boarding cards then proceed to domestic departure gates via immigration control then to your final departure gate. If not in rece..........

Cont from Msg 37:

.........t in receipt of onward boarding card, then you need to proceed to the check in area usually in areas C or D for Pegasus in main terminal, check in then make way to your gate as above.

It’s reasonably easy but immigration checks both in and out can take time so don’t dawdle.

One point to note that for all passengers arriving in Turkey at SAW (excluding Turkish passport holders) for immediate stay or onward transit, a visitors visa will be required the cost of this is GBP 10.00 or in national currency of the passport holder i.e. USD, Euro etc. (10 USD, 10 Euros) etc. This is a mandatory requirement. A visa stamp valid for 90 days can be collected from a booth located to the left hand side of the immigration / border controls (Passport check). (Coins are not accepted!)

Information from Pegasus UK to IAH Ltd 26-07-10 this can be changed at very short notice so please do check.

News in from the trade press today - Spanish air traffic controllers are threatening a strike in mid August which could affect hundreds of thousands of UK passengers.

If it happens, the strike is expected on August 18 for three days, date and duration have not been confirmed.

In the UK, the Unite ballot of BAA staff over possible strike action closes on August 12.

Yesterdays news (Tuesday) re British Airways - Talks between BA and the cabin crew union Unite ended yesterday with no sign of a deal.

BA issued a brief statement: "There was a short meeting at ACAS today and there are plans to meet again next week." Meanwhile, Unite is threatening to ballot its cabin crew members for further strikes starting in September.

News in today - from the travel press:

I am only copying in a few phrases that I feel are relevant from a longer article. By the way that also means that agents will probably no longer be able to take a deposit only, or they will not conform to the regulations.

Tui Travel is to take all of its Thomson Airways flight-only sales out of Atol from November 1, blaming “inconsistency” of the government-run protection scheme.

The CAA had accused the leading online holiday retailer of breaking Atol rules, believing it was selling packages which should have been licensed and liable for the £2.50 per person Atol Protection Contribution.

A Tui spokesman said: “The current regulatory scheme in place is not consistent across our industry, with certain airlines not required to pay the current levy.

Toms IAH comment: The worrying thing is if you lose the ATOL protection you have no cover or protection if they cease trading or stop offering flights etc.

This seems to be new ... and could affect some TRNC travellers.

Tim Msg 47 - I have had to do some research on this.

The broker involved has connections with an American insurer and it seems that the insurer and their information source assumed that there might have been a link with Goldtrail. Other specialists in the same insurance area (SAF) do not seem to be having any problems with Pegasus. I understand that Pegasus is well founded, funded and are probably furious that this has been published and we are very happy at IAH to carry on selling and flying with them.

As you may know - the threat of a BAA UK strike has diminished, that’s a nicer bit of news for a change.

From a travel trade bulletin today

Transatlantic flights may be grounded over the next few days as Hurricane Earl batters the east coast of America.

Airlines have warned flights from New York and Boston might have to be cancelled.

The report quoted Continental Airlines saying storms were likely to make air travel difficult, which could force cancelation of flights from Newark Liberty International Airport. Forecasters have warned Hurricane Earl could move north as far as Maine and Nova Scotia in Canada over the weekend.

This keeps on happening - Agent support firm and tour operator Holiday Direct Limited has ceased trading over the weekend. The Southampton-based company traded as Holiday Direct Travel Group, Book Holiday Direct, Go Travel Group and The Travel Box

Reality looms? - Ryanair boss says no-frills airline must move away from its “pile it high and sell it cheap” strategy because current average fares of £33 are unsustainable

Both above headlines from a travel trade bulletin just in.

Extracts from a travel bulletin recd. today:

The Civil Aviation Authority has told several retailers that bookings with Goldtrail Travel will not be reimbursed by the Air Travel Trust Fund. The retailers are understood to include Travel Republic and On the Beach. The decision was relayed by letter this week. The CAA refused to comment.......

The CAA agreed a deal with Atol-holding retailers to share the cost of consumer refunds. But the fund trustees ruled out paying several thousand claims for bookings through retailers that do not hold an Atol at a meeting last week. Questions remain over the timing of Goldtrail’s failure.

The failure triggered fears that a section of the trade would be shut out of sales to the eastern Mediterranean next summer......

Toms note:

The last comment expalins why many of you feel along with the effect of losing airlines that flight prices are rising.

Holding an ATOL does not cover you if the sale is as a ticket provider.

The collapse of Goldtrail, Kiss Flights and Sun4U will cost the Air Travel Trust (ATT) between £40m and £45m, according to the Civil Aviation Authority. - this is part of an article in earlier and you can guess that the card companies have lost a similar aount or more.

PEGASUS flights UK to and from North Cyprus & Turkey Summer 2011

We hope that as an agent tomorrow we should have the details and be able to book Pegasus for summer 2011 - please email us tonight with all details names dates etc

Preferably use the form from our site http://www.flightholiday.co.uk/Flight_option_form.php

Alan and I will try to get you the best seats in the morning the options at the best prices will only be available for a few hours - we understand the agents site only will be ahead of the public site so try us for the deals (people who we already have details on will be dealt with first so make sure that we know all you need us to)!

If all you want is a price please do not take the agents time as that you can get later and it is not nice for clients who want to book and pay if you hold seats and while you are holding a seat you make their prices higher.

Please be careful with your hand baggage.

According to the morning news from today the security checks for aircraft over the UK (I personally take this to be EU) will be very strict about carrying printer cartridges/toners/inks so try to avoid carrying them and declare them at check-in if you have any in your hold baggage

Flights from Pegasus scheduling error:

Please check your flight dates on your confirmation from Pegasus on the 2011 Manchester Antalya Ercan route.

IAH spotted an error on the Pegasus schedule and they have corrected it overnight - to quote a colleague only HG Wells time machine could have done this (or Concord going backward?)" the aircraft would have taken off before it arrived.

Rosina Msg - 68 - We are always happy to help (sorry first time I've looked at this thread and that was to make the next posting about UK snow) - sometimes we are cheaper sometimes more than the airline but we do have a reputation for service and that is something just money can't buy.

In case you have not picked up on it yet The following is from TW a travel trade paper -

Snow forces more airport closures across UK

Dec 02, 2010 09:02

Gatwick remains shut for a second day and other UK airports were closed due to the continuing blizzard conditions.

Southampton, Durham Tees Valley, Robin Hood and London City were among the airports affected.

Gatwick will remain closed all day due to the severe weather conditions with a warning that the airport will not re-open until at least 06.00 Friday.

Edinburgh airport was also closed again this morning although there was some hope that it would re-open later today.

London City will remain shut until at least midday.

Transport secretary Philip Hammond announced a review of how operators have coped.

“We took urgent action during the summer which means we're better prepared for severe weather than last year - a national strategic salt reserve exists for the first time,”

Hi Lilli Msg -74 . No this is a once off extra turnaround and only happens if they 1] have spare aircraft 2] can get all the slots they need 3] feel they have sufficient need to already make the aircraft break even. And in this weather have ordered enough of the right antifreeze (I'm not joking).

From travel trade press re BA - Jan 21, 2011 16:19

Members of the Unite trade union have voted in favour of further strike action today as the dispute over travel perks and disciplinary procedures following previous strikes rumbled on.

Although the original issues that saw cabin crew walk out for 22 days last year have been resolved the airline and the union continue to disagree over BA’s response to the walk-outs.

Unite reported this afternoon that 78.5% of members who voted were in favour of industrial action.

The turnout was also quite high with just over 7,300 of the 10,000 members who were sent ballot papers returning them with a valid vote.

BA boss Willie Walsh said this week he was confident of keeping 100% long-haul and 100% of short-haul aircraft flying, although this is not the same thing as saying all departures will be flown.

News just in from travel press - Flights will be disrupted and airport security (UK might be increased)

Moscow

All flights have been suspended out of Russia’s busiest airport following a suspected suicide bomber exploded a device which killed 35 people.

In what is believed to be a terrorist attack, Moscow’s Domodedovo airport has been thrown into chaos after the blast went off just after 4.30pm local time in the baggage reclaim area of the arrivals hall.

A further 130 have been injured by the bomb.

Security has been increased across Moscow with all airports and transport hubs on high alert.

Flights travelling into Domodedovo will be diverted to Moscow's Sheremetevo airport.

Part of a message from Pegasus sent to agents like flightholiday recently

Dear Colleagues,

Due to some problems we faced on Wheel Chair policy, we would like to remind you some points to improve our guest satisfaction.

Pegasus Airlines provide wheel chairs at airports to guests, who are disabled, need help, can not climb up the stairs or need special care on long walks. To benefit from this service, wheel chairs should be ordered by SSR entry button while making the reservation. This order is automatically sent to Call Center for approval. After the approval guests are informed by Call Center.

Pegasus Airlines does not take responsibility for not pre-ordered or not approved wheel chair requests. To avoid such complications, guests, who may need such service, should be informed accordingly.

Pegasus Airlines provide such wheel chair according to guests request

Hi Gillian - Msg 88 As far as I understand the position at this moment is that an accord has been signed.

No one seems to know if aircraft have been rented, staff taken on (who will need to be trained), IATA approval gained or similar, relevant AOC or similar granted and airline systems implemented. When those tasks are done they will need to apply for slots at the airports they want to use and appoint ground handlers etc apart from setting up or buying in booking systems, web sites, appointing agents etc at which point they can start to offer tickets for flights they hope to run.

On this side of the business I have very little knowledge so there is probably a mountain more that might be needed. With all this I can't see it (whatever name it trades under) coming so soon can you?

Be careful about what you say when flying - From the BBC today

A plane travelling from the UK to Egypt was diverted to Greece after a note containing the word "bomb" was apparently found on board.

The EgyptAir jet, which had departed from London's Heathrow Airport, was carrying 251 passengers when it landed at Athens International Airport.

The UK Foreign Office said 50 Britons were on the Cairo flight and they were staying in hotels in Athens overnight.

Britons have been warned to avoid Cairo during the current civil strife.

The EgyptAir pilot made a request to land and the plane touched down in Athens at 2039 local time (1839 GMT) on Friday.

An Athens International Airport spokeswoman said: "Everybody is safe and the aircraft landed safely."

She said she understood a piece of paper containing the word "bomb" had been found on the plane, causing the unscheduled landing

Egypt Advice from the FCO today:-

•In light of the ongoing demonstrations, we advise against all but essential travel to Cairo, Alexandria, Luxor and Suez. This does not affect transits through Cairo airport for onward travel to other destinations, although there is some disruption to flight schedules. A nationwide curfew is in place from 1600 to 0800 local time. The Egyptian authorities have blocked mobile telephone and internet communications.

•If you are already in Egypt, you are strongly advised to stay put and follow the advice to be found at - http://www.fco.gov.uk/en/travel-and-living-abroad/travel-advice-by-country/middle-east-north-africa/egypt

The suppliers of IAH Egyptian tours say:-

The protests are localised and heavily policed. Phone lines and internet access is restricted so if you are unable to get through to Egypt, please don't worry.

All of our passengers currently in Egypt are safe and sound. Etc.

Anyone else noticed how Pegasus flight prices have been going up and down like a wh***s drawers over the last couple of weeks. Have been watching flights for July for some time now and finally hit the button tonight for Stanstead/Ercan two people return for £350, don't think it will get any better than that, last couple of days they have been changing two and three times a day.

News headline in to IAH this lunchtime – “British Airways cabin crew will this week begin their latest strike ballot as the dispute over contracts and working conditions rumbles on”

Do they like or hate their customers is what I would ask on the ballot form as if they keep this up they will lose many who have an allegiance as they still think it is the successor to BOAC & BEA who were real british airways.

It is rumoured that the EU will ease the liquid ban in travel through airports later in 2011 - rumours are not fact! If it happens it will probably not include Turkey.

re message 98- We suffered unecessary stress as a result of the uncertainty regarding BA strikes at the end of 2009. We vowed that we would not travel again with BA unless completely unavoidable. Since then BA have lost business with our family (leisure and business travel) to the tune of approximately 10,000 pounds.

I used to be one of those you refer to as having a strong allegiance to BA but no longer!

“Skyrocketing” oil costs due to instability in the Middle East will make 2011 a challenging year for the airline industry, IATA has warned.

A report of a survey received today said:

08 March 2011

Research has found that only 11% of key airline staff have access to up to date operational data despite increasing demands for information from customers.

“The good news is that the majority of the airline industry is waking up to the importance of plugging key decision makers into a unified and interactive environment to view their operations.

"This gives them the ability to respond in real time to unexpected situations and improve their business.”

New flights from Ercan to Istanbul Ataturk and Trabzon with Onur Air.

Istanbul flights operate 2 daily and start at the end of this month, Trabzon flights start in the middle of May and operate twice a week (Thurs & Sun). Fares start from 69TL and can be booked now on http://www.onurair.com.tr

It seems they were given permission by the TRNC government to start flights, extra Istanbul flights could be good to connect on to UK bound flights with airlines like KLM, Lufthansa and BA - the evening flight reduces the wait considerably if you arrive in Istanbul mid afternoon.

There's an article on their website in Turkish about the launch...

Heather Msg 110 - sounds good but everyone must be aware that you must have lot of time on hand for the transfer and you will probably need to buy a visa as you will in theory not be a transit passenger*.

If I'm right this does mean handling your own baggage from the carousel to check in going through security and then through passport control again.

* Your boarding card for the onward flight at transit control is what would be checked for transit not tickets or passport

Yes, that's true so and extra time would be advised - but then again lots of people do 'self-connect' at Sabiha Gokcen (and Stansted) onto easyJet flights to the UK as it often works out cheaper.... It's a matter of personal judgement and risk assesment - we connected off AtlasJet then onto Turkish with a 3hour connection, made it no problem and we were waiting on the plane for about 45mins for other people from other Turkish Airlines flights...

It's ideal though if the Turkish Airlines flight is expensive and you arrive in Istanbul after 2pm, as without the Onur, you would either pay through the roof with Turkish or wait an extra 3hours for the evening AtlasJet as 2hours isn't enough connecting time in Istanbul...

British holidaymakers still rank eating, drinking and flirting as their top priorities on holiday, a Kuoni survey released at ITB Berlin today has revealed.

Brits are amongst those least likely to seek spiritual enlightenment while taking their annual break.

I remember Onur Air. The cabin crew used to smoke in the forward toilet, and one of the rear toilets always seemed to be 'out of order'. I was once queueing for the other toilet and a stewardess opened the out of order one, to reveal what looked like the crew's goodies.

A word of warning for everybody.

A good friend flew back to Stansted yesterday on the afternoon Pegasus flight PC519,the whole flights luggage was 30 minutes getting to the conveyors in Stansted.

Her case had been ripped open and several items had been stolen, letters ripped open and clothing lost.

She is naturally very upset and is taking it up with Pegasus, who will probably shrug and do nothing. As the luggage does not get handled after Ercan, who else should she start to complain to ????

Seemingly Airport security rules in the UK and Europe will not be relaxed regarding to 100ml liquid rule in hand baggage this April. So make sure that you are within the rules and also that if you purchase something in a sealed duty free bag that you do not breach that bag.

Flying to/from UK in the next few days - If you are using almost any South East airport allow extra time due to the M1 closure it could affect most of the M25 and insurance will not cover you if you miss your flight.

Incoming travel news today - Car hire prices could rise by as much as 30% this summer due to global car shortages brought on by the crisis in Japan. - this is according to Holiday Autos (who we have as a link on our web site) - I'm not sure how this might affect TRNC rates if at all.

News just in:

Turkey earthquake kills three

May 20, 2011 07:32

An earthquake which shook north west Turkey last night killed at least three people and injured nearly 100. The 5.9-magnitude quake struck at 11.15 pm local time was centred in the town of Simav.

The tremor was felt in Izmir, Bursa, Istanbul and Edirne, close to the Greek and Bulgarian borders. There were no immediate reports of damage in the ancient city of Ephesus, which lies just outside Selcuk, about 90km south of Izmir.

There is no indication that Izmir ADB airport is closed but or of unusual delays.

Eruption of Grimsvötn volcano in Iceland: no impact expected on European airspace

On 21 May 2001 at 21:00 CET, EUROCONTROL was advised by the Icelandic Met Office that the Grimsvötn volcano in Iceland had erupted. The plume of ash has reached a height of 12 km or higher around Iceland and is currently drifting in north-eastern direction.

There is currently no impact on European or transatlantic flights and the situation is expected to remain so for the next 24 hours.

From travel press information - Icelandic Ash We do not envisage the same kind of blanket closures of airspace we experienced last year.

According to the Volcanic Ash Advisory Center (VAAC) in London,

depending on the continuing eruption of the volcano and the meteorological conditions,

there is a risk that some ash cloud may reach parts of northern Europe in the next 48 hours.

You take your pick - they also say as the ash is heavier than 2010 it is settling faster so may not travel so far.

Transport secretary Philip Hammond has said there will be "no crude nationwide ban" on flights, even if ash from Iceland's latest volcanic spreads across the UK.

Fall-out from the Grimsvotn volcano has forced airlnes to cancel flights to and from Scotland this morning, but Hammond said this would not lead to a blanket ban on flying. ...... etc

The usual reporters drama it would be nice to have some positive news like cheap flights at £170 to North Cyprus

The news - As thousands of famiilies prepare for a half-term getaway, aviation authorities are now saying that an ash cloud from Iceland's erupting volcano could cause serious disruption to travel plans later this week if it spreads across the UK. ..................

............ The ash cloud is expected to reach other parts of the UK later this week, but the Met Office said changing wind patterns made it difficult to predict whether the ash cloud will spread.

The CAA said the cloud could potentially cause serious disruption as the ash density below 35,000ft had reached the highest level at more than 4,000 microgrammes per cubic metre.

However, it said airlines would be given permission to fly even in medium to high density ash as long as they had done a risk assessment with aircraft manufacturers etc......

Icelandic volcano further information received through a travel press email bulletin earlier:

Passengers heading in and out of Germany can expect severe delays today following a drift of ash from the erupting Icelandic volcano Grimsvotn.

Air traffic controller NATS says the ash has now moved away from UK airspace although it warns it may return at the weekend.

Germany has closed its northern airspace and Bremen and Hamburg airport shut early this morning. Both Berlin’s Schonefeld and Tegel airports are expected to close during today.

Icelandic volcano further information received through a travel press email bulletin earlier today:

The Met Office is now predicting that the entire UK could be in the ash cloud red zone on Saturday with thick ash circulating at 35,000 feet.

Update on European air traffic situation following Grimsvötn eruption, 17.00 CET 25 MAY 2011

EUROCONTROL has the following update to make with regard to the situation of air traffic in Europe as a result of the eruption of the Grimsvötn volcano in Iceland.

According to the Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre (VAAC) in London, areas of ash concentration were over the north of Germany today. As a result, approximately 450 flights were cancelled in German airspace.

The German airports are currently fully accessible again According to the VAAC forecasts, it is expected that ash cloud coverage will dissipate overnight.

Tomorrow, we do not expect any significant impact on European airspace.

The next traffic update will be issued around 10:00 CET tomorrow, 26 May.

Posted by me on TLF but important to Cyprus44:

If you are confused or have difficulty with API (Advanced Passenger Information) requests by an airline or their agent on web sites or during booking.

It would be very advisable to ring the airline asking them to put the information on your reservation (take a note of the person you talk to and time etc.) There is a risk you could be "denied boarding" if you have not conformed to their request for API in their time frame before check-in.

If you are denied boarding having not given information it is possible that you will not get a refund or replacement flight (your travel insurance might not give cover you being your omission).

Different airlines ask for different details etc. ie Pegasus have started to ask for your country of residence on holding an option.

The following is for the UK other countries differ: http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/travellingtotheuk/beforetravel/advanceinfopassengers/

cyprusquest...i would love to put money into TRNC...but the flights are SO expensive , especially during the school holidays....

as a single mum it aint easy,

so yes i shall be flying into the south, but its the airline that shall get my money not the ROC...and they wont be getting a penny, not even for a cup of coffee at the airport....

the only money they will get is for the car park from my relatives that shall be picking me up....

Slight miscalculation (should be £165 with return taxi) but still a very good price so well done on finding. Why fly to Ercan? The problem with the charter flight you have booked is that you do not know if they are going to be there when you need to go. Try and book well in advance with Thomson and the price would be a lot higher. The other issue for us would be that our taxi would be closer to £50 each way being above in Baspinar, £25 to Kyrenia is a very good price!

So for us when booking well in advance Ercan is still the way to go. We did manage to get a reasonable priced flight with Monarch from Luton last year when booking closer to time of travel but we have not managed it since.

Of course if Manchester is a priority that puts a different light on it. Monarch seem to offer reasonable prices out of Manchester when booking in advance.

Minever Msg 167 - Did you know that when you fly south you don't pay airport taxes in Ercan (about 14/15 GBP per traveller) but do pay them in Larnaca (probably about the same amount) these taxes go to the govenment and airport. Plus of course there is the Cyprus road Insurance which will pay their local VAT to them too.

We do try to keep people flying North but do understand the economics of flying to the South and help people travel that way too.

So far during 2011 the UK CAA has had nine ATOL holders collapse (where we assume clients were fully protected if travelling from the UK).

At the March renewal date about 18 companies were very late and about 70 had ceased trading as ATOL holders

This quick check for information was triggered by a travel press announcement;- Scheduled airline ticket specialist Crown Service UK Ltd has ceased trading – the CAA is now trying to recover passengers' money

From UK Travel press earlier today - Airport immigration officials and some air traffic controllers will join teachers and public sector workers in their mass walk-out on June 30.

Lets hope not but that's what they say so be aware at least it will make travel hard allow more time for your flights etc.

Flight deals for 24 hours to and around Turkey + TRNC

Q Early last week - Are there any deals on flights for August or September?

A. Hi S****,

There were none but it looks like there might be a good special available this Sunday only the 19th (about 20/30% off the best available price).

To get it I will need travellers details in advance and to complete the transaction on Sunday. (It may not apply to all bookings but we will see.)

Details needed:

Flight dates plus where from and to of course

Each of the travellers names as on the passport (ie Mrs Elizabeth Sarah Davie) and DOB for any children under 12

At least land and mobile numbers to call you on when we have an option on hold.

------ This was a real conversation - If you email the details to info@flightholiday.co.uk we will come in and hold seats in the early hours of the morning for you (so using the cheapest seats for the discount saving) but the deals must be paid & complete tomorrow!

IMPORTANT NOTICE received today from Pegasus UK operations

Regarding the forthcoming action proposed by various public sector workers planned for the 30th June.

Currently can advise that Stansted Airport Limited will have in place contingency plans that will eliminate or reduce any disruption to the flow of passengers and flight movements during the 24 hours being 23.59 29th June till 00.01 1st July.

Pegasus flights will operate to normal schedules and therefore we ask that passengers check-in at normal times as check-in desks will continue to close –45 mins pre departure. We will not be responsible for any passenger arriving late for flights or offer alternative arrangements.

There may be some slow processing at immigration on arrival but again this will be kept to a minimum.

On behalf of Pegasus and Stansted Airport we apologies in advance for any passenger disruption.

How is your travel insurance? None? Please get it (preferably through us) see the tab @ http://www.flightholiday.co.uk web site for insurance for Expats & UK residents.

See the two partial articles from the Travel Press:

a] AITO is temporarily suspending its 100% financial guarantee from August 1 following the discovery of an "enormous loophole” in the Package Travel Regulations.

The loophole is in relation to Tour Operator Failure insurance and has come to light following a police investigation into Devon-based schools ski operator Skiing Europe,.....

b] The number of travel companies facing "critical" financial problems rose 31% in the last quarter, more than twice as much as the average across all industries in the UK.

For the hotels and accommodation, the rise was even sharper at 47%.

The shocking figures were released in a survey by insolvency specialist Begbies Traynor ...... there was a 12% increase in businesses facing ‘critical’ financial problems when compared to last quart

Sorry bad news - about H4U & Aegean flights

Turkey specialist Holidays 4U has ceased trading. The company went into administration after advising the Civil Aviation Authority that its credit had dried up, leading the regulator to call in its bond and security.

Holidays 4U staff in Brighton were informed this morning. The company has about 12,000 holidaymakers overseas and 40,000-50,000 forward bookings, although the CAA has yet to confirm the figures.

An Atol-holder, Holidays 4U was licensed to carry 66,000 passengers during July to September and more than 100,000 a year.

When did you last look at your booking conditions?

When you book a flight the airlines rules apply (sometimes the tour operators too). Some conditions are not within European or local law but if you book or buy any service or product (flight, hotel, insurance, camera even a property) you are doing so under the suppliers conditions. (I known that you can contest many unfair terms but you need to remember the cost can be very high and that you might not win.

Taken from one airline's terms & conditions today:-

In case a flight is cancelled due to insufficient number of passengers and a suitable alternative flight cannot be provided, the amount you have paid for the cancelled flight will be refunded. You are not entitled to make any other claims. *******.com never gives out meal coupons nor provides hotel accommodation for cancelled or delayed flights.

Eurotunnel is putting emergency plans into place to cope with threatened strike action by French employees over this bank holiday weekend.

French unions are demanding a pay rise of 8% or will call a stoppage.

The cross channel rail link has suspended sales of tickets for the bank holiday period in light of the strike threat.

More than 25,000 vehicles, carrying around 100,000 people, are expected to use the service over the three days.

Note:- Ferry and flight capacity is already tight.

I know that this does not directly effect North Cyprus or Turkey but it could have knock on effects at airports if extra flights are laid on - so try to check in early

From travel trade press today (make of it what you will but there could be some travel disruption):

The US has issued a global travel warning ahead of the 10th anniversary of 9/11.

The travel advisory was issued by the US State Department, to its citizens, warning of potential attacks, because in the past, terrorist organisations have previously planned their attacks to coincide with “significant dates on the calendar”.

In a statement on its website, the State Department added: “This worldwide travel alert supplements the July 26 2011 Worldwide Caution, and expires on January 12 2012.”

Reports have said that there is no specific or credible intelligence that Al-Qaeda or other terrorist groups have planned any attacks.

The Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said the US would remain at a heightened state of vigilance..............

A top UK Travel journal today supposes that Airlines might soon be subject to UK ATOL regulations

"A leading travel industry lawyer believes the government’s flight-plus regulations will bring airlines into the Atol scheme - - - a partner at Field Fisher Waterhouse, drops this bombshell in an editorial in the September issue of Travel Law Quarterly, published today. He describes the view that the Atol scheme can be extended solely by primary legislation as a “fallacy” and insists “flight-plus, surprisingly and inadvertently, does include airlines”.

- - - "

Thought - It might be good for travellers and may put prices up on the airlines packages as currently they can avoid some costly UK laws

From the travel press this morning:

Travel agent failure after 31 years - Buckinghamshire-based travel agent Romano Travel has ceased trading only days after Airborn Ltd went under.... A spokesman for the CAA said there were only half a dozen forward bookings and any passengers should contact them..... “F Woolley t/a Romano Travel based in Bucks has ceased trading with immediate effect. The business specialised in air inclusive holidays to Spain and Turkey.”

Romford base Airborn has also gone by the board, see above - "A message on its website reads: “Airborn direct / Holiday Hero ceased trading on 21st Oct 2011. Please contact either ABTA or the CAA for further information.”

Hi,

Does anyone know when the Pegasus flight schedules come out for 2012 from Manchester? Still waiting to book for May, if not out soon will have to go Turkish Airlines.
