Although I am not a Tory Boy! I agree with your above statements and Labour I think will now go backwards and not be reelectd for a long time! Yes the Unions will cause a lot of strikes and unneccesary hardship for those who follow in their footsteps as the cuts have to be made. After all who got Britain into this mess of Debt- Ed Millibands Nemesis- Gordon Brown. Watched his speech prior to the Leadership result and what a plonker. No remorse for plunging Britain into so much debt etc- all hypocrites the lot of them!! Also both Milliband, born and bred London went to Oxford and ........ parachuted into safe Labour seats of South Shields and Doncaster, bet they know nothing about the local areas. Andy Burnham is at least a local chap and knows local issues- but cant talk about anything else apart from his 'wonderful job' at the Health Ministry! Ed Balls- lucky still to be an MP!! Diane Abbot- does not know anything happening in the real world as shown on the Labour debate!

Just goes to show you that the big Union Bosses were on telly this morning already talking smugly of being in control again..... Labour should apologize to our nation for leaving it in such a bl---y mess... |

Listening to those two Milliband twerps, its like going back to the 70s, Bill and Ben the Flower Pot Men, blobbbber blob blob, .... Think 'Rossy' sound alike might try and take us back to those dark days of strikes, the union bosses have a puppet to play with. Best thing since sliced bread that he has been elected, means we wont see a Labour gov back in my life time!

Being a Labour supporter all my life, what difference will it make who ever gets in? Stop kidding yourselves. The last decent Labour Government was 1945, when they gave us everything we hold dear to our hearts, NHS Education etc till nasty woman came along and ruined it all followed by Bliar who was even a bigger fool. Ever since the Suez incident We have been and we will always be USA's poodle. Get over it we have.

Tiggy message 13 quite agree ,they might not be so happy with their 'friends' when they realise all cheats will be targetted, not just the peasants. See the taxman has accessed Swiss HSBC accounts of Brits. as a start, 'But Mr Alexander estimated tax evasion costs the Treasury £14billion and his operation will recoup at least seven times its £1billion cost. Saying that dodgers should be "as harshly treated as benefit cheats", he wants a five-fold increase in prosecutions for those who feel not paying their fair share is a "socially-acceptable lifestyle choice". He said: "It is morally indefensible... and we will be ruthless." I look forward to seeing those Brits using NC to avoid paying tax on interest and rentals, sharing a cell with the benifit cheats they have so often sneered at.

Hi Yfred... 'nasty woman' came along JUST in time.. this country was being held to ransom by Unions that had too much power and we had an ineffective Labour govt with a leader( Callaghan ) who took on a poisoned chalice from a previous leader ( Wilson) who quit when he saw the writing on the wall. 'Nasty woman' installed some pride in being British when travelling abroad, and ensured lots of folk got a chance to own their own place. The Labour govt of 1945 inherited a Britain that was war-weary and this came them a unique chance to throw money at social experiments that we are still not able to pay for, now. We have been a 'poodle' of the US since the second world war and it was only leaders like 'nasty women' -who realised that 'Gorby' was 'a man we can do business with' that had the foresight to help bring about an end to the cold war. The legacy of how / who ensured Ed won will be a millstone around Labour's neck.

Msg 17 Thatcher also gave us the highest interest rates ever, bringing hundreds of homes into negative equity. But plenty of profits for her fat cat friends, vat on medical prescriptions, destroying steel and coal industry. Yes a fantastic person who now I hear as senile dementia, God works in mysterious ways

"destroying the steel and coal industry" Hmmmmmmm, If Scargil had got his way he would have destroy the UK, best thing Maggie did was to stand up to him, all he was is a bully and a power crazy one, it was not for the workers, it was for his power crazy ego RD

Love him or loathe him he said it like it was that Thatcher and her neo nazi government were out to close the pit industry, bearing in mind that many of the mines closed were still profitable

Topten the highest interests were actually under John Major, and you can thank Mr Soros and the Franco German gots for their 'help' in that .. Negative equity is something that many folk might well be in ( again) due to borrowing against their home to fund things believing the value would always go up ... folks got in negative equity during Labour govts, too ! As for the steel / mining industry - WHAT was / is the point of mining / making it here, when it can be imported for less.. and we keep our reserves for a time it IS worth mining them / making it ? I'm sure some mines were still making money but if that was the case a private consortium would have bought it.. The world price was falling and no-one wanted to take the chance.. this wasn't JUST about 'screwing' Scargill ... the same for the print industry ... things HAD to change..

Beg to differ after all the cuts Cons/Libs have implimented, they will not get back into power for another decade. This is not my judgement, it was the head of bank of England's. Has TRNC become a heaven for a bunch of tory boys?

Re 23 Yfred No govt is going to be popular for cutting back and or raising taxes... they WARNED us of the need to 'swing the axe' and were the first to admit they would cut - long before the election. Labour lost - and the Tories have teamed up with a the LD's - why Labour lost is important - they lost the trust of the majority of people.. Mondeo man moved to the Tories and right now Labour just lurched further to the left.. in the short-term this must appear like REALLY good news to the govt...

Mrs T did the same thing in early 80s and had to start a war to be re-elected, let us hope that Mr C does not repeat a similar thing and attack Iran instead.

Dear Yfred, without a doubt the Falkands Crisis came about because 'we' ( the Foreign Office ) sent all the wrong signals - Argentina had a deeply unpopular Military Junta and taking back the 'Malvinas' was supposed to be THEIR salvation... In reality it was the Generals that did Mrs T a favour - as her economic policies weren't popular.. she might not have won a second -term but for them... how fickle the electorate, eh ? I hardly think your suggestion that Mrs T started the war is fair or factually correct... but she certainly made sure she won it !

Mark, I do respect a lot of what you bring to this forum, but I do believe at times you may be in need of an operation for cataract’s to let you see what is really going on in the world. Mrs "T" was the head of a party that was surrounded by botty lickers and yes men. Geoffrey Howe only found out he had a set of balls when he spoke out against her during his resignation speech in Westminster! I notice no one is making any noises about off shore accounts....can anyone recommend a good one to me? Estate agents in NC are suddenly being inundated with property enquires !!.

Keep it up 6m's. The best political party ? The opposition. They always have the answers until they get into power. The Falklands war was brought to our door by Argentina. The Iraq war brought to our door by Labour ( Tony B liar ) lies.

Tiggy re 33 Hello Patrick.. Even Paddy Ashdown said, "Mrs T was good for the 80's".. Perhaps she stayed on too long and wasn't flexible enough - esp. near 'the end' for sure Howe's speech was the 'fatal wound'.. I was more of a John Major man, meeself ;) Poor bugger did a lot towards bringing about the Good Friday Agreement and Tony Blair got the 'glory'

I only want to be where you are and then I don't have to think about the political mess affecting me and mine everyday. It doesnt matter which party is in or how the coalition is formed, they are all the blinking same. I am definitely no fan of Arthur Scargill however he was the only one telling the truth in 1984.
