Just a thought from a different view point Clueless. My partner worked in Turkey for a few years and tho local men had a saying that described the topless british girls. She cant remember what the word was but roughly translated it meant 'easy slapper', but it's a free world so what you want. To be totally fare on the other bathers, perhaps there could be a grading system based on age or dress size, ranging from Nude, Topless, Bikini, Swimsuit, right up to the full Burka.

like it Marvo, but what about the french girls they started the trend inplaces like St tropez and Cannes in the sixties, wouldn't call them slappers and its a bit unfair to use derogatory term to identify all young british girls, just because they follow a trend thats commonplace in most of europe. p.

Pilgrim, It wasn't my description of them, that is what the local turkish men thought. bear in mind it is a muslim country where the woman keep themselves covered in public. Then there is this clash of cultures, where all this flesh is on show. We in the UK would like to think that newcomers to GB would respect our values and traditions. We are the newcomers here and while we may not agree with it, we should respect their culture. I'm of the belief that an exchange cultures is a good thing and here in Glasgow the introduction of the full burka would vastly improve life up here, if the can get them made big enough.

agree Marvo, but when a country actively illicits tourism at a certain market ,they have a inherent responciblity and have to accept some of consequences. I visit Glasgow nice city, cool day , perhaps fur lined Burkas p

The turkish cypriot women do not generally go swimming topless, neither do the greek cypriot nor the greek women. This is common with mediterranean european countries. But you can feel free to swim topless, as long as you are sure not to be in the beaches where kurdish/eastern anatolian workers are swimming(no disrespect to them, its their culture but they should adapt here). Many times have i experienced first hand how my english, french friends could swim topless in beaches such as acapulco. I would like to provide you some cultural history information that you may find interesting. Our ancestors, the ancient anatolians such as Hittites, Lydians,Lycians,Carians,Phrygians were worshipping a Great Mother Goddess named Cybele(Turkish: Sibel-widely used female name to this day) which later inspired the Hellenic Artemis. Cybele statues are also known for their importance given to female breasts which among others symbolized "Fertility" in our ancient culture. The statues generally either have very large and visible-topless breasts or many breasts. Below i provide you with some photos of our ancient goddess which predates hellenization of our anatolian ancestors by centuries and also the french topless trend by some thousands of years Phrygians of Anatolia 750-546 BC: Cybele http://www.thymos.com/monument/museums/ist422.jpg Hittite Kybele 1750-1200BC http://socialscience.tyler.cc.tx.us/mkho/fulbright/1998/annerye/cybele.jpg Modern statue depicting Cybele http://www.funforever.net/wp-content/chemiakin_cybele.jpg

True Turkish Cypriot women do not cover up at all. I would say most TCs don't go topless but it is not unheard of. Turkish Cypriot dress is just the same as in the UK ie English. Freedom prevails. Turkish Cyptiots are very westernised and proud of it!
