i know i have to see a doctor rather than writing on here but i really do wonder what it can be. I don't know how a headache should feel like so i just felt like sharing with you to get some feedback. I have pains on left top side of my head, and when i move it feels as if it wobbles. When im not moving that much i dont feel a big pain but, feel a bleeding pain instead. It's been 3 days that i have been having this headache and it occurs several hrs after waking up. What can it be, is it just a normal headache, or something more serious?

You will find doctors are not very happy if you visit the "emergency" at the hospitals for a headache - in any case they will hand over 2 paracetamols and ask you to take them. You go to a private doctor, he will charge you 50 TL and probably will do the same! Here is some free advice for you; Migraine headaches last for up to 3 days if not treated. Your description sounds very much like one! It is usually is on one side of the head, starting from the back of the eye and moving up along the head, and in extreme cases resulting in a stinging pain at the base of the brain at the back. Once you get this kind of a headache, you may feel sick at times. Noise and light aggrivate sucha head-ache, lying in bed in an upright position with pillows behind your back does not cure but heases the pain and helps you sleep. Taking couple of "Avamigran" tablets (readily available at chemists) and sleepingt hrough the night usually does the trick.

The main couses of such prolonged headaches can be forcing yourself to read or spend time in front of a computer for many hours (passed your bed time), problems with vision in one of the eyes or a combination of two. Scientists have tried to associate it with eating habits - i.e. too much cheese, chocolates etc... but I think that is all unfounded rubbish! However consumption of alcohol and staying up late does trigger this sort of headache. The other main trigger mechanism is related to too much strees after a sleepless night or little sleep...

Or a private doctor may prescribe more than a couple of paracetamols and charge considerably more when he discovers you have Sandfly Fever which is what happened to me when I had a prolonged (and out of the ordinary) headache. Better to be safe than sorry. |

Try Immigran (Sumatriptan) if you think it's migraine. VERY expensive even in TRNC but it does work.

Thank you all for your advice, I will consider all. Big oz, like you have said, the pain does move slightly from the side of my head to the back. I had to use the word wobble to describe the pain, that was the only word. As i move it feels like my brain wobbles inside my head. i do spend many hrs in front of the computer, that may be the reason. I will see a doctor, probably a private one.

I think you should mel - but the symptoms you described are identical to that of migraine, from which I suffered a lot, but reduced it recently by not forcing the system too much. You cannot possibly have a sandfly fever! Because the accompanying symptoms are a lot more, such as: Fever Headache Chills Shivering Flu-like symptoms Muscle pains Joint pains Flushing Feeling "the brain wobbling" is the key word here, and is exactly how the brain feels when one gets a migraine attack. You might be better off checking with an optician first rather than a private doctor. Another problem with private doctors in TRNC is, we do not have GPs, so unless someone recommends a doctor who specialises in headaches (i.e. neuro-muscular pains), your best bet would be the hospital - preferbaly the one in Lefkoşa! Finally, there is no harm in taking couple of Avamigrans (non-prescription/over the counter). Usually one dose and few hrs sleep takes care of the migraine! But you should see an

It is my experience (as someone who has suffered from migraine) that no-one with migraine could possibly sit in front of a computer and say that they "might" be suffering from it. Migraine is very debilitating - you can barely think straight, let alone type words on a keyboard describing the symptoms. Having said that, if a person's headache has continued for any length of time, then consult a doctor.
