I could not believe what I was reading in today's Cyprus Today. Mayor of Girne wants to make it a tramway (high street). Over the years this road and pavements have been dug up about 8 times to my knowledge. Why waste all that money on a tram (could be trams) when the road isn't even a third of a mile. I honestly think we are living in an open air asylum. There are so many things that this money could be spent on that is urgent. Go into the Baris Hospital (attached to Lefkosa Hospital) this is for mentally retarded patients and see how they live - when I used to go to give them crayons and little treats each Monday they only ever got cleaned up when the Minister of Health visited at Bayram and the foreign residents here would help with money - so in my mind this is a complete and utter waste of money - let us hope it never happens.

Well if trams were introduced then they'd have to petrol or diesel run, as each time the electric went off the trams would stop running!

Don't worry. It will only happen when the bicycle path from Girne to Lapta is ready, the cable car from Girne to St Hilarion is finished, Disneyworld in - of all places - Güzelyurt is built and the Girne bypass is officially opened for the tenth time after nine "second thought" improvements.

Hi Rita - not only are you living in an open air asylum - the lunatics appear to have taken over! As you rightly say, this money could be put to much better use. Hope you're well. Jean (Paul's wife) x

I dont see whats wrong with the idea, though I thought the giant television screen next to the church was a winner. Also thought the national debt could be cleared by selling the fruit from the palm trees. And if there is a power cut...no problems, as the high street is on a gradient so all you have to do is release the handbrake and, but what if they decide to have them running the other way ? I better give it some more thought...... Michael

Do not worry about the power cuts. No doubt the plan includes sleeper cars for the 800 metre journey. Who was it who wanted money to replace asbestos drinking water pipes? Oh silly me, forgot, the plans always include prioritising !
