A couple of years ago, during one of my visits to Buffavento Castle, I took a picture of the memorial to the crew of a charter company's aircraft that crashed there in 1988. Vandals (if I remember well) ruined the monument some years ago and there was some publicity in one of the local newspapers. And that was that for a long time... But there may be some hope...

Hello Hans,

Having visited the site a couple of days before you in August, I can only concur that the car-parking area was a disgrace, being covered in picnic & party debris. As with St Hilarion, I tried my best not to allow my enjoyment of my meandering ascent to the summit to be spoiled by the continuous litter trail.

Next time, I'll be better prepared, and will take a few bin-bags with me, and try to help cleanse this beautiful site, by removing as much trash as I can carry, on the way down.

Hopefully the TRNC government will wake to the realisation that they really have to do something about the issue of litter in their country.

Cheers,

Eddie
