i wonder if anyone can help me out, i have a u.k passport my parents are both from cyprus but have british passports. i want to get my cyprus kimlik (ı.d card)

and become a national. i know i have to pay the army off three thousand pounds not to do it but once i have done this what is the next procedure and what do i need i have heard that i need to get a cyprus birth certificate to do this i need a copy of my own u.k birth cert copies of my passport -mums passport - dads passport and copy of my parents divorce cert. the only problem i have with this that i have not spoken or seen my dad ın over 17years. so if this is all true is their ways round in getting this hopefully someone can point me in the right direction!!!

Hi UKTurk,

Its a diificult one, I am not sure they will issue you with a TRNC birth certificate unless you can prove where you where born, have a copy of the district Muhtars registration form from the time of birth, have copies of both parents fingerprints and a 5YTL stamp!

You will also need 10 years of residential stamps of which 5 can be work permits.

Do you have family members over here who can find out for you or could work in the departments that relate to your case, this would come in very handy.

I can imagine that just as soon as you put the formalities together and complete citizenship the government will abolish national service.

hi Stavros

thank you for your reply, firstly i do know that i dont need any residential stamps because im not considered a foreigner because both of my parents were born and raised in cyprus and left there in the 60s, everytime i visit cyprus i have to show my çikis paper (exit paper) and i can only stay in the country for a total of 60 days in 1 year unless i do the national service or pay them off but that is as far as i know, what you are saying is right knowing my luck once i have completed these formalities they will have abolished the national service!!!! L.O.L. i do have family members in cyprus but they all have a cyprus kimlik because they were all born in cyprus and have british passports and cypriot passports so they dont know

P.S (with a name like stavros should you not be on the south cyprus forums l.o.l)

Hi UTurk,

Its a funny old game trying to fathom out the imigration laws and requirements to live over here, my daughter was born in Lefkosa in January and we informed the local Muhtar as required in Kucuk Kaymakli and registered the birth with the sicil memuru and they gave us a receipt which is also the birth certificate and promptly stamped VATANDAS DEGIL on the certificate, so the scenario is this my daughter was born in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, will go through her education at one of the State Schools and at the age of 18 will have to apply for temporay residency and then permanent residency for ten years before she can apply to be a Turkish Cypriot national, at this rate bearing in mind the size of the Turk cypriot population there will be no Turkish cypriots registered as born in North Cyprus by 2020. On meeting Mr & Mrs Talat the other month and explaining that my daughter was born her Mrs Talat said "well she should be Cypriot then" so at least one half of the Nation talks sense!

Good afternoon Stavros

i have never heard of that in my life the postion you are in but hey anything is possiable in cyprus the one saying that rings true is expect the unexpected.

Thats the thing i dont get they want me either to do the army or pay it off but come up against a brick wall when i want a kimlik and to become a national i cant even come in to the country as a foreigner and get a residents visa cos as soon as i go to customs i have to produce my çikis kayit (exit papers) the whole reason i want to become a national is i can be free to buy houses (without taking ages to complete) have no problem in finding work etc etc, anyway im going back over in a few weeks going to hopefully find out and resolve this situation Wish me Luck!!!!! ill keep you posted

P.S i wish you luck on your mission for common sense!!!! & also belated congrats on your birth of your child

Quite agree with you, this is my home now so why shouldn't i pay tax here and do my National service?. Seems to me there are a lot of Ex pats here who bemoan the number of illegals working in the UK, but then wont get a work permit themselves.

thank you ttoli

thats what some of these people dont understand if you are going to leave blighty for a better life in cyprus (or wherever you go) you need to accept and embrace its cultures and its laws!!! and exactly what you said complain that all the people working in the U.K are not paying taxes etc etc while they are in cyprus not paying for taxes on thier illegal work etc etc

To all those people at them bars you know who you are its not one law for you and another law for us!!!!
