from villa owners site (hope they don't mind !)

Hi

Is there any one who can help please . We live in Kyrenia, there is a stay dog around the area who has given birth to a litter of 10 pups. thay must be about 5 weeks old now and are starting to stray onto the street. I am very concerned the are going to be either injured or killed.

I have tried to call KAR on the only number I have for them and no reply!!!

Any one any other numbers please, 0533 8694098 this is the number i have tried.

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday KAR turned up and took the puppies (9) and Mum. The lady in question was brilliant with them and it was all done in a very calm manner. I must say the Mum and her babies seemed to understand that the KAR lady was there to help them. Lets hope that they all get new homes quickly.

Thanks everyone for you interest, help and support. I currently have a rocking chair for sale on this site it is new and I will be donating 50% of the sale price to KAR.

Sorry i have this all the wrong way round - duh !!

I have been very disheartened to read so many negative remarks comments on this bb about what KAR are trying to do/achieve that i was pleased that on another board recently there was a positive story.

It seems as though a lot of people are concentrating on the negative aspects. But what about the good things they do (poison campaign/education programme/out of hours emergency callouts/funding a hotline for members of the public to report incidents or call for advise/ sending rescue animals to German homes/running the Centre etc etc)- but then perhaps it is the same situation as with the media here and in UK - good news doesn;t sell ! Lets have some positivety for a change.

About time they people at KAR were given some credit. I hate to think what on earth NC would be like without them.

I had to report a problem with a stray cat and kittens in our area - KAR were very good - they explained there will be a wait but they came and took the mum to vets for her operation and then when the kittens were 6 months i ranf them and they asked me if i would be able to take them to the vet if they supplied the boxes and they would still pay for the operation. I did do this and it made it easier for them (they didn't have to send van/people out so they could use them in another area) an it was not too much hard work for me but at least they are all done and paid for. I did make a donation but everyone i spoke to at KAR in the office and on the phone were very helpful. The vet bills for just the cats i reported must have been high so i dread to think how mch they are for all the other animals they pay for.

I think the feelings and thoughts behind KAR are absolutely brilliant - I sponsor a dog at the centre and donate as much as I can BUT we do have to be realistic - poor unfortunate dogs after being neutered released onto the streets - in my humble opinion is really cruel. Cats will survive but dogs either starve to death or turn into frightening pack dogs who can injure people. I was told by the nice lady who founded KAR that the vets here will not put a healthy animal down - drive through Karalanalgou or walk on Karsiaka beach - these poor creatures make Posh look fat. However I will put my money where my mouth is and join KAR as a life member and hope my vote to cull (humanely) unwanted strays might get some support. I wouldn't want to be wandering the streets and trying to survive out of plastic bags. Would you?

Good to see some positive news where the topic has not been hijacked to football.

If you can spare a couple of hours one morning before xmas and have about 50 ytl you wouldnt miss, then please go to Lemar, buy a case of dog food, get in your car and drive up the mountain to the KAR centre and deliver a little something for the hungry animals.

Could it not be good for the local economy to export the stray dogs to Korea?

Oh dear, who is now going under the name Val44. I have seen some of their other posts & was not sure if they were serious, now I know they are not. What is happening to this board, who is trying to hi-jack it so that all the decent members stop posting & it just disappears?

Val44, Do you dislike animals?? Why would anyone want to send animals to Korea? Read up about their gross cruelty to animals, especially dogs. They are kept in crates in the market, beside the cooking pot. Occasionally the cook will throw them a bone or scraps. When it's their turn for the pot they are skinned alive and thrown in!!! Not only do they suffer smelling their mates cooking but wait their turn. Cruft's got a load of flack for sending dogs there but so far as I am aware, they STILL DO. Boycott everything to do with Korea and don't buy KIA motores. See literature on WSPA's site and I think CIWF did a piece on it around the time of the world cup there. Bloody Phillistines will eat anything that moves and have no respect for animal welfare, very little for human either. I won't visit any Eastern countries because of this barbarism.

I think you'll find Val44 has disappeared, along side various other auto egos created by perhaps one person. Let's hope for good.

Hi All

What a great posting regards Kar it is so nice to see some good things being said about them for a change and its all true.

As for the sado that keeps making stupid suggestions I wouldn't even both answering his/her remarks as it seems that he/she thrives on getting people going.

I too must join the ranks of those with praise for KAR. We have a colony of cats in our garden and KAR have made 4 visits to us over the last couple of months to round up as many of them as they can to get them speyed/neutered. I would never have been able to catch them myself and so KAR's assistance and enduring patience has helped to improve the overall health of the cats and to keep the population down.

I don't want to get involved in the debate over the situation with the dogs, I simply want to report another positive experience.

Well done kitty for adding to the positive postings.

I often wonder if the people with negative opinions could do a better job than KAR do under often limited resources and donations.

Cannot imagine what it would be like without the dedication of the people who give their time and effort so willingly......need more of them.

I am surprised that KAR is not awash with volunteers? From what I can see on the BB's the majority of the ex-pats have little or nothing to do with their time, there is so little work out there, so why don't they volunteer for a worthy cause? Just a question BTW.

I think kar do a good job but please could someone please answer the phone on a weekend. I had a puppy that was badly beaten on my doorstep today and the vet couldnt keep it in the clinic and said to contact KAR which I tried too do but to no avail. I am trying to look after the dog until monday when I will try KAR again, but it is in so much pain and being a novice, finding it very difficult.

Please do NOT post Karin's mobile number as a general KAR number, that can be rung by anyone at any time. She does enough already for KAR without such a public listing of her number in forums here.

Admins could you please REMOVE this number as soon as possible.

I have just spoken with her and she is not happy to have her number listed in this way.

Thank you.
