Canada, if you mean the UK then many of the parks are no go for a lot of people and the streets are not as clean as they used to be.

Only last week I was in a said park and someone had set fire to a waste bin next to a park bench and all that was left was a big black melted lump of plastic from the bin and the metal frame of the bench.

Very sad

When I am in Cyprus like you say I miss the clean streets and the green parks but when I am in England I miss the sun as well as the peace and tranquility of Cyprus. For me both places are home.

Family and friends, I wish Cyprus was nearer, but I still think the advantages outweigh the disadvantages.

The last three months have been quite sad for me and we decided we must do more of the things we want to do and therefore visit people more. Chase the cheaper tickets and just do it. Other than that life is great NC. There are probably the same number of problems here as in UK or Germany or France etc., just different in each place, but none have the sun and sea with the secret empty beaches and countryside without fences to enjoy.

Maybe this is the wrong board for you Phil,.. perhaps there is a more suited forum for your views but of course you already know that don't you.

For your information (again I might add) I neither own or rent property in Cyprus and as for morals well what can I say.

I think its more your morality than mine thats in question here

There are many different ways to murder someone! and it's not always on the streets with knife or gun crime! if you don't realise that you have a lot to learn! I'm certainly not laughing! look again at your post 27! and think of the many who have lost everything including their life in more devious ways!

To get back on topic of what I remember of England I miss snowdrops and bluebellls - and realise how silly that is when than anenomies (oh why cant we have a spell check?!!!) and cyclamen and other Spring flowers come out.#

What I miss most is the NOrth Cyprus I knew when I came here. The friendliness and welcome of the Cypriots, the helpfulness of the British Community, the quiet roads safe for small vehicles pedestrians and cyclist - no bully vehicles and bully drivers. No enormous delivery lorries with expensive consumer goods blocking narrow village roads. Olive groves and fields to walk the dogs where now there are estates of ugly house and swimming pools, Streets safe for children to play, friendly local shops with time to chat , local resteraunts serving local food, hardly any drunkeness, being able to leave my dogs in my own garden without fear of poison and friends who would "sit" them if I wanted to go out for the day, driving at night without being blinded ....

by oncoming headlight or undipped in my mirror by a vehicle too close behind, or forced into a ditch.

Free access to beaches, or minimum charges for basic facilities and sand instead of yards of concrete

Going out for an evening on my own, and being sure to meet several people I knew instead of a sea of unfamiliar and unwelcoming faces. And oh so much more..............

BizziLizzi - we all miss the Cyprus you are talking about but unfortunately tourism is a double edged sword and gives with one hand ( income for the locals) but takes with the other ( settlers changing things to suit themselves and continually whinging about everything that doesn't suit)

And unfortunately, whilst the UK is still one of the most civilised countries in the world, it is the mentality of the type who tend to emigrate who try to discredit their own country.

Now they will try to do the same to TRNC !!!

Whether you miss anything is relative to where you have come from..Personally I miss beautiful beaches and Sea food/Shell fish to die for..but not the 0.5% interest rates.

I miss drifting in a boat on a Welsh lake/reservoir fly fishing for trout.

And walking through the woods, perfumed with bluebells to get to a river to fish.

Going home, lighting the barbie, stuffing my fish with fresh herbs, and enjoying the flavour of fresh caught trout, with a nice glass of cold chablis

Bertieboss message 45. You are so right.

Maybe it depends where you lived in the UK and your lifestyle there, how much you miss it. One thing from the UK I would like to see here (but never will) was a beach where dogs were allowed at certain times of day and (so they could have a lovely safe unencumbered run , but people who didnt like dogs could avoid them) and bins for doggy dos were provided at fequent intervals (also bins for normal rubbish)so owners could clean up easily. But of course this reflected on the rates and I could never have afforded to live there.

Yes, I miss good English cheeses - and varieties of apples, but as with flowers other things compensate.

But I think Ismet has it right, on the rare occasions I miss England it is the England of my youth I miss, not as it is now.

I miss not having to pick all the junk mail off the hall carpet every morning.

Kids 'egging'' old ladies houses every halloween.

Reading that another someone has been beaten up just a few miles away, or that some poor business

is being sued for some rediculous misadventure.

Fireworks going off from the end of September.

Yobs hanging around the chip shop, seeing the police moving them on, then ten minutes later, there they

are selling their drugs and laughing because the police can do nothing about it.

Hearing the elderley saying they must get home as they need to lock themselves in because it's getting dark.

Hearing young mums chastising their children for hanging behind in case they are abducted.

The crowded shopping malls, and wedging my purse under my armpit.

Yes, I miss all that........,

My grandson could walk to my house today,(if his mum allowed him) on his own, he is seven years old.

oohhpps,

I forgot to lock the car again last night.

I miss the litter, the efes bottles on the roundabouts, the immigration system, the education system, the facist and racist regime, the union jack wearing sweaty beer belly "tourists" that visit, the "penny" sweats and matches used as currency in the supermarkets, the skeletons of properties never completed, the stories of corrupt developers and estate agents, the floods, the decompossing bags floating in the coastline, the drivers inability to comprehend the basic rules of driving, the students at disneyland universities, the Cyprus Today!, being the laughing stock of the Government and NGO's, having to pay to stay and invest in the country (bizzare), being a third class citizen, O how I miss the TRNC

blade. And the bickering among the people who have moved there and are bored.

martin. I agree it depends on where you are situated in the UK, we have very few problems in our village, the children can walk to school on their own.

flowerfairy. Why do you read the news if it bothers you what is going on in the UK.

My apologies for gloing slightly of thread,

Mess 75, John, yes, I am very happy, I'm healthy and alive, thank God.

I have no plans to return to live in Uk in the near future.

Yes, I was educated in the UK, when teachers were allowed to do their job.

Yes, I made my ''fortune''(if that's what you want to call it) after working there for over 40years,

and the problem with that is?????

Mess 78, Marie, I don't read the news, I said that this is what I missed about the Uk when I lived there.

When I did read it, I found it was mainly bad news, I mean, how many times have you read that a hoodey, or some youngster helped someone, but it does happen. I'm afraid that kind of news doesn't sell newspapers,

I thought you are from Manchester because you mentioned constant rain. As you know it hardly ever stops raining in Manchester. I spent my first year in UK there so I know.

Just been enjoying a pork pie from the Pork Shop.

But it is nothing like the "veal and egg pie "

He can eat veal the same as millions of other people who appreciate quality meat.

It's a shame to eat junk!

Paul, where did you come from in UK, ''ability to travel cheaply''????? Jeeez, for me to get a bus from the south green area to Billericay town now is about £3, I can walk it in 20 mins.

Sorry, I haven't tried to even get to London.

I've worked/lived overseas so long that I find I don't really miss much anymore!

When I go back to UK for a month or so each year then yes... I always enjoy watching local league cricket; having a pint (or 5) in the club after the game; having really good fish and chips, pork pies, kippers and smoked haddock, Lancashire cheese etc etc every so often. But after a couple of weeks or so I'm ready to get away.

I've lived here 5 years now and I can honestly say that the only thing I miss from the UK is Cask-Conditioned Real Ale. The TRNC has a lot of detestable qualities (many mentioned by Aslan in message 76 above) but for each one he lists there an equivalent in the UK so on whole I'm happy. Except, as I say, for the beer!
