What are the feelings of the forum members about the Royal British Legion Kyrenia Branch running a lottery, to raise money for good causes, on who will be the next celebrity to die ?

The RBL are taking bets on which celibrity to die first in 2012. A bucket list of celebrities has been drawn up. Bruce Forsyth,Margaret Thatcher,Fidel Castro, are some of the names mentioned.

I remember a few years ago this idea caused an upset when it was introduced in the UK. So what are your thoughts ?

a Croke List could be fun but depends on the crowd, somepeople would find it offensive, others just a bit of fun , better played in a fun light hearted bar, not by the Royal British Legion me thinks

I hope the message 2 is correct. I thought it was a dreadful idea and not worth of the RBL.

Tend to agree, this is in bad taste. Why couldn't you come up with something more positive like the next celeb to get married or become pregnant

Or something about Northern Cyprus. After all it's the Royal British Legion, Kyrenia branch, is it not?

Its a horrible, sick way to raise funds!!....

Surely this is just a joke?.... RBL wouldn't stoop to such a low way of getting funds from some ones demise, would they?... If its not a joke, shame on them for thinking of this. ...

Surely, someone on the Committee vets all suggestions for fund raising before it's published in the papers? Or maybe not!

Paddy on holiday in Italy .. On the last day he visits the Vatican ..

Looking through the window sees the Pope laid out in a shroud ..

Knocked on the door to see if he is ok .. Was told that the Pope has died but it won't be announced till Monday ..

Paddy flies home & tells his mate Murphy that the Pope has died & it will be announced on Monday ..

Great says Murphy let's see what odds we can get on the Pope dying over the weekend .. Offered 10:1 in the betting office .. Can't lose Paddy, put £100 on it ..

Seeing Paddy on the Monday after it was announced the Pope had died .. Murphy asks Paddy have you collected the winnings .. Bet went down said Paddy .. How come said Murphy you knew he was dead ..

Well said Paddy I had him on an eachway double with the Archbishop of Canterbury ..

Message 20, spot on!! Ex RAF, we certainly will not be joining this branch, and will remain with the St. James Branch in the UK.

Standards and morals are different to all

some find exchange land offensive

some find the war in Iraq offensive

it is all down to the individuals taste

Not offering any opinion, but out of idle interest, do UK bookies actually offer odds on the deaths of people?

Bunch of sanctimonious individuals - as usual!!

Depends what you mean by celebrity - I would like someone to tell me the definition of what constitutes a celebrity.

However if they qualify as celebrities how about - in no particular order - Blair, Thatcher, Forsythe ( nice to lose you)Curry, Widdicombe, Cameron, Gove, Murdoch etc

Message 28, I was born in Louth , of an Army family, married my RAF husband who was at Manby from 56 to 58. Came to Cyprus in 1970 for the first time, fell in love with the place, and finally came to live permanently in 1983. Sorry to go off thread.

The bucket club project will not now be taking place as on reflection it was in bad taste. The committee of the RBL Kyrenia Branch apologizes to all its members and the general public for any offense which may have been caused.

Well done 'theoddmajor'.... RBL Kyrenia Branch

Think it was just not quite the right sort of fund raiser really was it... But why throw off board members for coming up with ideas? Surely it needs ideas even if they are not always approved of!.

Any ideas should be run through properly first, then launched with approval...... So you don't get the back lash as this....
