We are thinking of going to Croatia this year, we fancy a week in Dubrovnik and a week north around all the islands. Has anyone travelled from Cyprus, if so did you travel from the North or the South? We are always open to suggestions of places to visit, eat and stay (and to avoid) if any of you have any experiences. Thanks Sue

Hi Sue, Yes, I have done this trip by flying from Ercan to Istanbul then on to Zagreb and then down to Dubrovnic, this all with Turkish Airways and Croatia Air who are also part of Star Alliance. Whilst you are in Dubrovnic you must visit Montenegro, its the most beautiful place on the planet, its a must. Hope this helps Dixie

Re: Msg1, I think now there are many direct flights to Dubrovnik (from Athens, Venice and other European cities), so going from the South will be more straightforward. I recommend Hotel Dubrovnik Palace. They have superb restaurant too. To eat in many restaurants near the harbour in the Old town is a gastronomic delight ( unlike Girne ). I've been living and having holidays in Croatia for almost 10 years and haven't visited all the islands! Take your time, enjoy!

Have flown with Lufthansa many times from Larnaca, would imagine they would have good connections onwards as Germans are the largest group of tourists and owners of holiday homes in Croatia by far.

Croatia was my first choice for moving to but changed my mind and we moved here 7 years ago. I wish I hadn't changed my mind as I think both the country and the people are wonderful. Not sure the language would be any easier to pick up though. We would have gone for further North than Dubrovnik (love the place though) and looked in Split, Poric i.e. the peninsula. Only 3 hours Catamaran ride from Venice. The islands are just wonderful, Korcula is fabulous and the island hopping is to die for. We made a big mistake not keeping to the first place on our list.

Msg 2: Hi Dixie, Wow, thanks for all the info I must admit to not having thought about going to Montenegro but will now put it on my list of things to consider after your 'enthusiastic' suggestion! Thanks Sue

Msg 3: Clarissa, Thank you for your msg. We are only going for 2 weeks and I know there is no way we will be able to take in all of Croatia but that's good as it gives me a good excuse to get the hubby to think about going again! Sue

If you go from the Uk the prices are not bad with Balkan holidays, we were looking recently. They do a weeks sailing to many of the islands for a reasonable price which you could combine with another week elsewhere on land in Croatia. That way you get to see much more. Maybe you could pick up and offer like this from one of the agents in the south?

Thanks blade for the info. We were trying to avoid going via UK as everytime we go it adds extra to the expenses and time. Will check out the sailing trips!
