Been looking for haggis in South Side, with no luck so far.

Anyone seen any or know where to find some

I was trying to buy some earlier this winter and (according to my friend Harber who runs Bell Foods) it turns out that it is now ILLEGAL to import the stuff.

It seems that it's protectionism for the local offal industry. Just pathetic.

I was aware they stopped bringing it to North Cyprus, but was hopeful it could still be found on the other side.

charlieb,

Just over border at Famagusta is a supermarket called Litsas, they always sell Haggis nearly always all year as well. They are frozen but very good.

charlieb,

usually in freezer on the right hand side of the chest freezers. If you cannot see them ask someone, as unless they have all been sold they will be there. It is also a nice place to get fresh ham, they do not always have it on display but just ask at the butchers dept at end of supermarket if they have some they have it under the counter.

It's really easy to make, if you don't mind making it in a pudding basin, my friend a scotsman really loved it and asked for the recipe!!

I made it in England a few times, haven't done it in Cyprus, but you can get all the ingredients here.

Couldn't legally feed it to the pigs in most EU countries, why bother?

As any Scot knows, the inherited trait of the haggis is, that it has one leg shorter than the other, this makes for slow going up hills. The few that have migrated here are aware of the hunting seasons and have been in hiding. You might see a few hopping about, if you are quick before the next lot of nutters let loose.

Yes BlueButterfly, but having a shorter leg on one side means that can only traverse a hill in anticlockwise fashion, otherwise they would simply fall over,of course anticlockwise means that their legs are shorter on their right side,I wonder if it changes to their left side south of the equator?

mes 15. I thought you would have known that they are very closely knit, the ones with the shorter left leg pair up with the ones with the shorter right leg, arms around shoulders, you have a matching pair, no problems. Or am I confusing them with bagpipes.

You also need to be out very early in the morning to catch them as they only go out at daybreak. Traversing the hill in one direction only means that if you can find the tracks - and you will need an expert to do that - all you need to do is sit and wait until they appear. They cannot turn round and go the other way so you are on a winner every time. Special haggis shooting guns are rare though.
