Hello All, Has anyone done the trip out to Cyprus using trains and ferry? I guess it can be done fairly easily, without a car, but wondered as to the best routes/companies to use and/or any to avoid! I am considering driving out also, with the intention of staying a few months before driving back to England, but not sure of the rules regarding how long an individual has spent on the island, and over what time frame, and how that effects whether any duty has to be paid or not for the vehicle. Any info appreciated.

We were told at Customs yesterday that if your car has UK road tax you can drive it for a maximum of 1 year ( presume until tax expires ) without importing it.

Re: Message 2 above - Only if you do not have a temporary residence stamp in your passport, if you do, then you have to visit customs every 2 months to have extensions until the year is up and then pay the crazy duty costs.

Fryingpan - Assume you don't have to pay any duty if you take your car out before the year is up but I would check with customs as there may be some export fee . . .
