A couple of days I wrote a warning about somename@hotmail.co.uk

CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD!

I keep receiving emails with some misleading nonsense text (and there must be other people who receive such mails!).

MANY ACCOUNTS @hotmail.co.uk ARE INFESTED WITH MALWARE!

For me it's more annoying than dangerous, because the malware doesn't work on Macintosh computers.

BUT IT MAY BE VERY DANGEROUS ON PC'S!

Moderator Simbas: change the password for your hotmail.co.uk account asap...

Hi Pat! Do yourself a BIG favour - quit your free somename@hotmail.co.uk and take the free somename@gmail.com account. You can import all your existing email addresses - and have a fine trouble free Internet life.

If you want to try it I'll be pleased to coach you with settings etc. You won't be sorry!

Looseboots

Gmail is one of the safest (if not the safest) free e-mail providers on the internet. Their spam filtering is second to none and also their pre-emptive warnings about e-mails that may not be from the shown sender are also a reason to use Gmail.

Personally I would now not use any other free e-mail provider.

And if you decide to change to Gmail then you can import all of the contacts from your existing provider easily.

I've got both, never had a problem with either in many years of use but I find the Gmail interface poor in design, clunky, ergonomically rubbish and illogical compared to Hotmail... but then that's just me.

I've never had a virus, malware or any other type of cyber problem from Hotmail... but I use .com not .co.uk

Be warned that hotmail.com is as vulnerable. I have received 6 e mails in the last couple of days - all identical with a message 'click on this for the video' . Two have come from the same person. so \I have advised them all to change their password. so, Hans, it is not only hotmail.co.uk . It seems to be all hotmail.

I believe they recommend that you change your password periodically anyway. Which reminds me, I had better change mine.

Personaly I am not a fan of any web based interface for mail but always prefer a dedicated client. I have used many over the years and currently am using Windows live mail, from which I collect my mail from my main email account (erolz@cream.org) and also from my gmail account and from my hotmail account all in one integrated, non web based place. I will only use web based interfaces when I am in need of checking and sending mails and am away from my own main machine, which to me is the only advantage web based access has vs using a dedicated email client.

I do the same Erol, and maybe others do not realise that this can be done. Hopefully your comments will help someone to use a different and better system.
