Rose

I love your supermarket but please do not pander to Brit expats at the cost of losing some of your traditional produce.

I went there a few days ago and was impressed by the willingness of the management to cater for an important element of the local population. They should be encouraged.

Keep to the subject matter. My guess is you have never paid a visit to Dolmaci's let alone even know where it is.

So butt out.

'Msg8, good way to avoid the question'

If you want to start another thread then I will be more than happy to answer your 'question'

Perhaps you can answer the question I posed in message 8? Have you ever been to any of the Dolmaci supermarkets? If so where was it located?

Dolmaci has limited fridge/freezer space and if they turn that space over to catering for expat requirements then a lot of their traditional foods will disappear. There are plenty of other supermarkets that are struggling to compete for the expat market. I will continue to use Dolmaci's if it does not sell out to expats.

Msg 13, that I understand what you are saying

but right or wrong maybe a sign of the times

in this economic climate

I guess everyone may have to adapt

A shame I know but even on this thread peole are asking for peanut butter etc

Maybe there has been a change of the type of ex-pats now ?

Message 14. From the Golden Lady turn off, head into Alsancak passed the Atyacara supermarket, into the village passed Fast Food cafe and its down the next turning on the right about 40 yards on the right. There's parking spaces at the front but do they sell Strongbow?

Lem

Sorry mate but i have to correct you on one thing (I am sure it was finger or keyboard trouble):

' passed the Atyacara supermarket,' should read Atakara. But otherwise your directions are correct.

Dolmaci is very local to us and we do buy a lot of stuff there when we're on holiday. We usually use Ileli's if we're looking for 'English' stuff, but would be nice if Dolmaci's stocked a few bits and pieces. Having said that, I'd hate to see it change too much from the way it is now.

Becker the quickest way along the main road is to turn up virtually opposite the Starling supermarket (nearest to Lapta) and go up there for a few hundred yards and it is on your left. If you get to the "T" junction you have gone too far.

AJ if you wish to continue wearing sackcloth and ashes then please feel free to do so.

If Dolmaci wish to extend their range then they should be free to do so without your interference.

If you removed that pint from your mouth you may see further than your nose and realise times are changing.

You are not the only ex pat in Alsancak

HIPPO,

I agree, I do try local produce but I do like the traditional English fare, if the local shops want to branch out to the International market why not? On the East side most if not all the local shops stock many UK brands, more expensive yes, but thats my choice if I buy. I don;t consider it " pandering" at all.

Hi All,

We are not turning Dolmaci ınto a UK supermarket , It wıll always be a turkısh cyprıot shop . The owner wants to invite more brits and introduce a few brands which we all use in our kitchen.

Heinz soups , Atora suet, indıan pastes, chinese sauces, Hula hoops . Small examples which they have never had and never seen before ..

Never had Bacon and Sausages ın the store , they have now .

So please come and have a browse Mr Dolmaci will enjoy your support .

Thankyou

Ooooooooooooooooh -Hula Hoops

We use Dolmaci's a lot when we're there anyway and can see we'll be using it even more now. Couldn't get more local to us, either.

Good luck.
